Vintage Tractors-Any buffs or owners?

Growing up in farm country I've been around quite a few different makes and models of tractors. If we weren't living on a farm I was working on one until I was about 16.

This was me supervising my dad working with an 8n I believe. But my main job was taking coffee and sandwiches out to him in the field.

Here's me and my brothers along with Duke of Earl. An Oliver 60 in the background. One of my chores was mixing up milk replacer and bottle feeding Duke. Later on we ate him.

Same farm we had an Oliver 1800 like this one. I had the cast metal toy one too...well until I broke it apart to see what was inside.

I spent a lot of time working and playing on my best friends farm later on in the years. He sent me this pic years ago...not sure if it was a scan or what...I dont even remember it being taken. It was long after his parents sold off all the farm stuff except for that H and went into trucking.

My favorite tractor there was the 806 like the one below. Lots of good times riding the fender with my friend's older brother telling us dirty jokes while plowing. I loved the torque amplifier on that thing too...pull that back and you could bury the thing.

Then I worked on a Tennessee Walking horse farm for awhile. Mucking the stalls and having to back a honey wagon up in a 160ft barn with about 6" on either side. Owner had a Deutz like below. That was fun learning to drive with everything in German.

Worked on a few other farms as well with Case's, Allis Chalmers, John Deere's, Massey Ferguson's and so on. Fun times growing up in farmland for sure. And dont get me started on some of the farmer's daughters! :rflmao:

My dad had an 806 also. I grew up on a farm so lots of older tractors. The 806 was also my favorite. Second favorite was the International 2+2.

We had an Oliver but it was one that had been flipped around and turned into a front end loader. Man was that thing tricky to run by the time I got to it. Lots of play in control linkage and almost no brakes.

WOW I can't believe I found d a picture of one. Looked EXACTLY like this.

For around the house.

1948 Allis Chalmers, a must have for grading the 5-acre lawn and 500 ft drive. 8000 pounds. You might say just grade it with the backhoe, but no, not five acres, not flat and crowned anyway.

1942 mutt, it's made up of a little of this and a little of that. For redoing the creek when a big rubber tire machine or mini ex with little tracks will sink. Indispensable. 4000 pounds.

1980 Alliss Chalmers. For all around digging and transporting dirt. No substitute. 13000 pounds. Mini excavators are nice, but they don't like moving big dirt around the neighborhood. But they do like handing out big maintenance bills.

My economy riding mower.

Man I need to get a backhoe. Or a backhoe attachment for my Ford 3000.

A small dozer would be nice also.

Good luck finding a 4000 pound backhoe that you can tow down the road with your 1/2 ton pickup. Everybody wants one. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
The cheapest backhoes weigh in at 13000 pounds or more. Can't tow that around with a bumper pull one ton truck.
Your best hope is finding an 8000-pound 1960/1967 Case 530 Construction King for $4000. Not likely.
So, putting the 3-point on your 4000-pound Ford 3000 starts to look pretty good.

One of the first vehicles I ever steered, was a Massey-Ferguson tractor - at the tender age of about 9...

My father later bought a John Deere 'M', which was our main tractor - had a bush hog, cultivators, and a snow plow... I cut a lot of grass with that, and as a teenager, of course, it was my job to plow out the driveway - and the parking lot of a small country grocery store we owned... :) 'Bout froze my butt off on that thing...
Much like this one:
