No i am not referring to Tupac and Biggie Smalls :-)

I am referring to the speaker design philosophy of

West Coast
JBL , ALTEC etc

East Coast
KLH , AR , etc

i am not interested in which design you liked best but rather the models you liked best from both camps .

mine would be the

JBL l65 jubal

and

AR 3a

and i like both equally for different reasons

so what are your picks ?

Klh Model Five and the JBL 4435... though, I assume Bozak counts as east coast, even if they font really sound like other east coast speakers... I change the klh to some 302a's

This thread gonna turn into a(nother!) Beatles versus Stones debate?

Ah ,i thought of that ,so getting an opinion on which model of each design camp eliminates the bickering between the two design principals.
i am hoping someone brings up a model i have never heard that might be an under the radar gem to look out for ,

unfortunately my two picks are extremely well known and extremely pricey

Hi,

Location does not have much to do with design philosophies or the resultant sound.

It is really up to the designer and his intentions.

With that said, culture can dictate the sound that will sell in a given area, and this does have an influence on what kind of sound you may get from different equipment. However, brands do sell internationally so.. I'm not so sure if this is always true.

You're trying to be too literal with this. There are certain sound signatures that are associated with these terms, but the terms don't require the speaker manufacturer to be from a specific region to qualify. Obviously, some speaker companies from far away have emulated the west coast sound. And, some east coast companies don't sound very "east coast".

I'm merely trying to suggest that there is no such thing.

It's akin to "tube" and "solid state" sound.

That said, the OP did ask what speakers do you like from the "east and west" coast..

Anyway, carry on. :)

East coast sealed, west coast vented. I know this isn't what you wanted but I prefer a sealed speaker's tighter bass. There are just too many in each camp to list, and many manufacturers produced both.
