I suspect that it would not be hard to source if you had a schematic. Not like trying to locate a PT for a tube unit.

There are a couple of places that have a decent source of manuals that sell on eBay. Also be the guys here may know of some. Easiest is of couse to call Yamaha directly. The DIY crowd will have transformers sources so once you get the schemative and have the values, then they should be ably to help a replacement and maybe even a replacement of a toroid design. The schmatic of the 610 may also work since the only outward difference is the placement of the balance control. I've never seen the inside of both units but other may have an confirm it.

If you decide against fixing it, I am looking for a parts unit for my 610II since it has some cosmetic issues.

I gave a CA-610 II to EW this past summer. He said that there was very little wrong with it. You might see what sort of deal he will make on a trade as I am sure it is just sitting there. IIRC, it had one bad transistor in the bias circuit. Was a nice unit that only needed this and the standard Deoxit/ProGold treatment to be in good shape. You might purchase it and keep yours as a parts unit for the future.

Now that I've read all the posts.......sell the cosmetic parts of yours to Brian and use the money to get the one from EW.

ITWM (if it was me), I'd ask to have it upgraded with a recap. Especially if you are going to use to listen to vinyl. The recap of the phono stage he did with Black Gates on a CA-2010 resulted in a sound as good as anything I've owned.

BTW, I got my CA-610 II manual here: http://www.servicemanuals.net/(dmahznv3cxn12455hmakpk55)/privacy.aspx

thanks for the info!!

If you decide to part it out, I'm looking for a volume/balance control for my CA-810. I think they're interchangeable.

Hate to spoil the part-y but I have several Yammie power transformers in the shop, I'll check the part number. I also (I think) have a CA-610 schematic, if so I can compare voltages. I also have a volume/balance control from a CR-820 that I rebuilt, I'll see if that is still in the parts bin and if it matches the CA-810.

Hi Rob:
I have the CA-610 II manual (don't recall if there is a CA-610, but if there is, a good chance they are different). The transformer number is GA 61 34 00.

On the CA-810 the volume control is HS 42 02 10 and is 200K. If I am reading the poor legend for the CR-820 correctly, it is an HS 42 01 80 and is 50K.

Hope this helps.

Are you working on the Yamaha CA-models again?

There was a CA-610, and it was different. Meters were smaller, balance knob was separate (not ganged with the big-butt volume knob), no "Main Direct", slightly different power spec. They pop up occasionally on eBAY. My sense is that they were ROW (Rest of World) and not sold in the US. Ditto the CA-510, which (based on eBAY photos) looked a lot like the CA-410.

???????????????????what does this have to do with finding a transformer for a
ca-610 II??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Easy, there, big fella. mrhardy, in his diligence, doesn't want you to waste time looking for your part in the different, yet similarly named model. sometimes, similar models share parts, but not in this particular case.

You would be surprised at the information which can come out of a thread that has been allowed to evolve, and run its course. This is your first thread. Please, don't be so quick to judge. Patience, my friend. You may find that you like this place.

My bad. I inadvertantly hi-jacked your thread while searching for the volume/balance pot for a CA-810. Apologies offered.
