Nice deck! I know it well since I did a fairly extensive rework on mine to get it functioning correctly.
Uses the same motor as the PS3000, slightly different servo electronics. Very interesting automatic mechanism that uses an under-deck magnet on the arm to activate the arm return function. Arm is a good one too.

I don't know that you would call it Sony's best, but it is a nice TT.
It's a sprung deck belt drive using the same motor and spindle bearing as the 3000 but a lighter platter, 2.2 lbs for the 1800 vs 3.3 for the 3000. Because of the Magnetodiode semi-auto mechanism the arm is dedicated, but it is a decent medium to high mass arm and very well made.
W&F is .08% for the 1800 vs .05% for the 3000; I use a 650g AT clamp weight to bring the platter weight up and I expect improve the W&F. S/N is >60dB (NAB) for both. Though not up to the specs of some more modern turntables, this one plays well and is both rare and good-looking to those that like the older style.
WhiteSE, I've got a paper copy of the owners manual for the 1800 around somewhere. The plinth is different, but the deck itself appears to be the same. I'll see if I can find and upload it. Not sure if you are aware of it, but this is a honkin' big turntable.

Indeed. I got hooked on the quality and the sound after the first five pieces. Up to a dozen or so now and have my eye on another.
