Juicy Music Blueberry

Thatch ear, I'm surprised you were the only one to say that. Usually everyone jumps on the bandwagon.

It's funny though how some pieces of gear leave a lasting impression in my mind. There is a piece of gear I bought some time back that I referred to as having "1959 Tappen stove" styling. My friends were rolling on the ground as they could not see where I got that image from.

I will mention that I do shop for audio gear using the "gut-feeling" approach. It is not necessarily cosmetics, sometimes you just get a feeling about something, and that has worked for me about 95 % of the time. So I guess I am more lucky than smart then!!! LOL

Mark,

Thanks for the reply.

In all fairness, the way the jacks are, the solder connection could be reflowed without even removing the board. I agree less connections is a good thing.

The left/right thing.. I don't listen to stereo from behind it. Even when I'm behind my equipment my left speaker remains my left speaker and doesn't change to my right speaker.

The color thing did grow on my, and if in the market for a new pre-amp the Blueberry will be on my very short list.

Everything is open to interpretation. I like that your pieces look the way YOU want them to. As a designer, I respect that. I hope some day to be able to get one of the Juicy Music pieces.

After all, it's about the music more than anything...

Onespeed----Actually, you said it better than I. When I started the business I prmoised myself I was going to have FUN. Not just sit at a soldering deck day in and day out building things that did not amuse me. Of course, I know our irreverent attitude such as fruity names, color-schemed gear and all somewhat goes against the grain of the usual "deadly-seriousness" of "high-end audio," but hey, I paid my dues so I get to do what seems interesting to me. This IS supposed to be fun, right? Thanks---

Frankly, after being in the business 30-some years, I'm just bored to tears with black sheet metal boxes.

YES! I am happy to know there is at least one other person in the world who feels this way. Mark, I love the looks of the Blueberry and I hope your p-cat amps will share a similar asthetic design. That and a scott 310-E with a custom matching case would be the bomb for me.

Scott 310E this guy knows his tube tuners! Probably the best ever made along with the 4310. Even picky old Punker likes the 310E ;)

Could I just add...

... that Mark Deneen is a first-class fellow as well as by all accounts a highly talented designer (and manufacturer) of tube audio gear!

I would seriously consider a Blueberry m'self except for one small problem... the price. Not that it is SOOOO expensive, but it is TOO expensive to keep under the radar at home! :-(

Maybe someday...

True... very good tuner. Not much of a tube tuner fan, but the 310E kicks serious butt. Only others that compair are HK Citation III-X, Sherwood S3000 II and possibly Marantz 10B.. one of these days I'll get a chance to work one.

Hopefully my preferences doen't hold much weight and the prices don't go up.

I for one am on the list for a road test. Without listening to one, I love the color scheme. Whoever is the marketing brains behind this one needs a pat on the back. I started my audio life in 1976 selling and have seen quite a few units that if not for great sound I would give them to my dog to bury in the back yard----MUD UGLY. So I can't wait to hear one, Styler has feed me some info and all reviews look good.

The Blueberry

I rec'd an email from Mark at Juicy Music and he said the roadshow wait list is rapidly increasing with current wait time greater than 2 mos. I would be willing to offer mine for auditioning under special circumstances. Certainly, anybody that is near Little Rock is welcome to come jam. If someone wants to audition for a week or so and is willing to pay s/h both ways I reckon we can work something out.

what about upgrading a regular BB

are you offering an upgrade from a regular BB to the extreme?
damn, i hate it when they come out with a new model..... :thmbsp:
looks fab! can i get one in pink?
Tyler

Yeah, I understand everyone get's a bit peeved when new modesl come out, but somehow we have to keep pushing the ball forward and frankly nine million people asked for BLACK, so we said, why not? But of course, we had to kick it up a few notches too!

YES - we are always very generous about upgrades/exchanges and the like. I don't have an exact figure, but it will be reasonable and fair. We'd like to get a few of them off the docks before starting upgrades, but 30 days or so from now we should be ready to do it.

I heard this preamp last weekend at Craig's......and in a word -

AWESOME.

When I began putting together my systems, I spent a great deal of time listening to other Klipsch forum members' systems in various parts of the country. I heard a LOT of high end gear, and finally settled on tube McIntosh. When I had my MX110 preamp rebuilt, I took that preamp and swapped it in and out of a few systems, with preamps costing 4-5K. While some of these preamps were a bit better than my Mac, I didn't really feel I was missing much....not enough to make me want to buy the other pre.

But the Blueberry is like Listerine: It says what it does, and it does what it says. That's RARE in audio. EVERY preamp I've heard either adds or subtracts something from the original recording. But not the Blueberry.

Those older classic rock recordings will sound better than ever before, because the Blueberry extracts ALL of the music without ADDING any hash. On these 1970's era recordings, typical hi-fi stuff will make you hate these old recordings - the Blueberry will have you in love with them all over again. That's one of the aspects I have always liked about my McIntosh - great on those older recordings where you want to revive the recording, so to speak. The Blueberry does this better.

And on an SACD??? Gimme a BREAK. This preamp is liquid, clear, and clean to an almost shocking degree.....FAR more expensive sounding than it is.

And then, of course, the new pricing.....and the new black Xtreme model......all I can say is there's gonna be a whole lotta happy 2 channel folk......because THIS preamp has allowed many the top flight performance they have been wanting at a price that is "mid-fi". Mark could charge $5000 in a B&M store with reps etc.- the usual distribution channels - and be able to get it, because the Blueberry SCHOOLS most other preamps at that price.

Sure, I might want a C22 ($2,500 or more) or new Mac tube preamp (6K)....and who could argue with wanting to own those fine pieces.....but the Blueberry would keep me just as happy on a sonic level.......for MUCH less. Mark at JuicyMusic has done for 2 channel as SVS has done for home subwoofers - made the unaffordable and unobtainable - obtainable.

All of this would not be possible without the rest of the system being well set up - including Craig's LaScalas and his VRD power amps (very impressive in their own right)

Oh, and BTW - a 200G pressing of "Led Zeppelin" sounded pretty good, too

Congratulations, Mark - you deserve it. :thmbsp:

Thanks for the comments on BlueBerry. While we didn't start out trying to build a "Best Buy" sort of unit (we just wanted to make the best sounding unit we could), our "flat distribution model" with no middlemen is turning out to be very effective at keeping our products priced WELL UNDER any competitive offerings. We think we have about a 3:1 price advantage over salon-store pricing of similar performing products. We're confident our $1500 BlueBerry compares to $5,000 units in stores. And, I'd be willing to have the new BlueBerry Xtreme shoot it out with any preamp at any price. We'll have lots of new goodies this summer also.
