Fixed cueing on my Technics SL-1400 MK2- pics->

Been doing a search on this and after about 50 threads stumbled upon this one which is more recent.
After some 30+ years in storage I stumbled upon my SL1400mkII which has the non-working cuing arm. The table had about 1 year of light use before I put it away and forgot I had it until I recently cleaned out my fathers house. Everything works perfectly and is in like new condition. Even has all the sales brochures and instructions. No scratches or marks of any kind, table plays nicely and sounds OK with the 30+ year old Micro Acoustics 2002 cartridge.
I was contemplating using it in my garage but would need to fix the cuing arm.
Unless i missed something how would I go about filling the lift with oil. I have both 300,000 and 500,00 weight oil from a tamiya RC car which should work not sure how to go about adding the oil.
i don't think anything is broken. It moves up and down with little issue.
Any help would be appreciated.

You have to really tear the arm down to apply the "oil" to the shaft. Not exactly a quick and easy job. I need to re-apply mine. FYI- the Micro Acoustics 2002e is a VERY good cart as long as the suspension has not dried out and the stylus is clean.

I was afraid of that. the table is in such perfect condition other than the lift arm. I would hate to damage anything in the process but I guess it has to be done. Surprisingly everything including the cartridge appear to be in A1 condition after all these years. I really expected the cartridge to be a goner but it is looking good so far. I think the biggest weakness of this setup are the cables. I am assuming there are threads on replacing those while i am in there although it does destroy the originality of it.

I reviewed your article and looked at the 2 photos of the cam lift. I just took apart my MK01400 and took a photo of what I suspect to be the cam. Per my attached photo, I can see a approx 1/4" gap on the cam. The photo don't show a brass shaft but a spring wound around a metal post. I assume that I will need to remove the misc. hardware to get to the cam. Any advise will be appreciated. Hope you can see my photo-1st time doing this.

That is the correct part- it is split and you can see the brass bushing at the bottom of the piece thru the split. Remove the clip and spring and carefully lift the cam off the shaft.

Any updates on this, still working?
I was following this thread trying to fix the cue issue on a SL 1400 MK II. While taking about the mechanism, a little needle and spring fell out. I have looked at the service manual, but cannot figure out where these go. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

I had a Tech 1400 MK II back in the day ... I have a ton more invested now but I will never appreciate a turntable as much as that 1400 MK II. Thanks for the pics ... you took me back down memory lane. Like an idiot back in the 90's I dropped it off at a local Goodwill, when I figured out vinyl was dead. Well, it cost me a pretty penny to jump back into it 10 years later. The sad thing was I had a similar breakdown with it in the mid 80's but the technician was able to get the spare part and fix it. It worked like a champ when I handed it to the fellow at Goodwill, I guess someone made out like a bandit that day.
I hope your 1400 runs for 50 more years.

Zombie thread, but I just want owners of the venerable sl1300-1500 series (mine is a 1400mkII, THANKS BULLY!) can still get these repaired.
To fix the auto-return, it cost me 175 bucks. Stupid that I did it, but I really like this table. Now the rca cords are gone bad. Is replacing them a super-headache? I can do basic soldering, but that may be about it.

In the back of my mind I seemed to recall that JB Weld had a formula specifically for plastics. Sure enough........ The tensile strength isn't quite up to the original, 3200 psi vs. 3960 psi but it's quite a bit stronger than JB Quik at 2424 psi. Still, I think 3200 psi is plenty and it's adhesion properties might be better suited to plastic (or else why make it?).

I'm resurrecting this thread to let everyone know that a 3D printed part is now available for these 1300-1500mk2's. Unfortunately, I didn't see this before I had a local tech fix/rig my 1300mk2 with a method he had developed over the years.

I just ordered one of these about 30 minutes ago for a customer repair job. Kinda freaky that you updated the thread. We'll see how it goes.
Since I don't have to rebuild the part, I quoted a pretty inexpensive price for the repair. Seeing how much is involved in disassembly/reassembly, I may have goofed on that front. Ah well -- I'll get good karma from it hopefully.

Hello all! I purchased a Technics 1400 mk2 recently and the cue lever is not working at all. I have fixed some stuff along the years but never a turntable. How hard would it be for me to open this thing and substitute this plastic piece? Anyone knows of a trustable repair shop here in London?

This fix is a bit outdated. thanks to 3d printing there are replacement parts available now. Order the right one after determining which bushing yours has.
