Yamaha M-Series Power Amps

i have exp with the m-80 2x m-70 1x m-45 2x and my latest a B-2 and a A1 intergrated that i have had for 20 plus yrs. that started all this luv for the "natural sound"

It's a great amp, that's why so few wants to sell them. I will keep my for good.

There is a B-2 on eBay, but the seller says he is giving it up because it has Euro voltage. Don't all B-2s have switchable voltage?

None (5 - 1) of mine do. But, easy to deal with using a step-down transformer. Not sure if there are leads for different voltages on the transformers, or not. Perhaps EW or merrylander recall, if they got into them that far.

Thanks so much for all the helpful posts! I don't think it would be possible to get this much "Hands On" info on NEW units, much less a whole line of amps that extends back into the late 70's! That, plus Yamaha's very useful Owner's Manual archives, made this a fun hunt. I ended up buying an M-45 (yup, it has the ZDR circuitry), and I figured 125 watts per channel would be fine for my efficient Dahlquist M-905s in a medium-small room. My impressions, with a Yamaha C-4 preamp, T-80 Tuner and Cambridge Audio Azur 640C CD player:
This combo actually sounds better than any of my well loved and restored receivers (Sansui G8000, 9090DB, Yamaha CR-1020, Marantz 2325). It also betters my Au-717, AU-719 and Yamaha CA-1010 (all recapped and Biased as needed by AK approved masters).
In general, I notice about the same level of detail, but more openess (and I hate using words like that). The bass is a little better defined, as well. All in all I am amazed. It is possible that I am hearing one of those Synergistic Events in which the amp and speakers just happen to get along particularly well. Also, no ancillary EQ's etc: every tone control Flat with Tone Defeats in place. The auto Class A seems to be quite transparent, but it does create some heat (as pointed out out in the OM), and the amp sounds great in normal AB mode. As an aside, the T-80 tuner was a pleasant surprise: pulls in distant stations and sounds very sweet. Now if only it had the Blue Glow and Walnut Cabinet of the 2325....

Thanks for the T-85 tip! I have read that they are great. This T-80 was aligned by Terry DeWick (I should have mentioned that) and is pretty phenomenal in that I picked it up for about $60 on eBay and Terry's alignment was only $58 (partly explained by the fact that it was near mint and he didn't have to do much). One day I'll try for a T-85 ; )
Does anyone know what year the M-45 was made? The amp numbering sequence seems to jump around quite a bit.

I run a Yamaha M-80 with NS1000M's it sounds really amazing! Its only downfall is that I am currently using a Marantz 2270 as the Pre-Amp. It's a unique combo with a considerable about of headroom and clarity! :) Oh I almost for got I picked up the M-80 at a local pawnshop along with the NS-1000M's. The M-80 came with the original manual and I got it for $250 the NS-1000M's went for $550 and one had a blown tweeter. They have been long since fixed as I bought them about 3 years ago.

I'll wager you'd notice a difference with a C- series Yamaha preamp. The Marantz is great receiver but it won't match the performance of a Yamaha C- series preamp. I have a C-6 preamp, an M-4 amp, and some NS-1000M's for a very nice sounding system. :thmbsp:
