My first speaker refoaming

I just completed my first speaker refoam job on the woofers of my recently acquired Allison Acoustics CD8s. I must say they sound and look mighty fine. I've been running them for several hours straight yesterday on classical music at low volumes, and tonight I just tested them at higher volumes using Ravel's Bolero. They handled everything without a problem. When I first screwed one of the woofers back into the cabinet, it made an odd "rattle" when the deep voiced announcer on our local classical music station spoke. When I loosened the screws a little, the rattle disappeared. At first I thought I'd screwed up the voice coil alignment when I did the refoam, however, I think I was twisting the speaker frame when I screwed them in super tight, which was tweaking the cone and voice coil alignment. Everything sounds fine now. :thmbsp:

Excellent job, Soundweasel!

I'm still planning that refoaming party- the flooring was finished on the rooms in my house last week, and the duct work should be done by saturday and a sealing of the countertop and the tile section of the floor.

That means a few coats of paint, and for the plumber to hook up the heating and the sink. Then the electrician to tie in the rewiring.

Lastly, an approval by the inspector and it'll be ready. I won't hold my breath for any of this, but the time it is a'coming...

Birddog picked up a rare set of HED CV-3000s, the only other fella I know who owns a pair of them other than me. Both of us need to refoam them.

It'll be nice to meet you.

By the way, if you like Klipsh, he's got a pair for sale here in the AK classifieds. Seems you have good taste in gear, and he's semi-local.

Cash is a little tight right now as we recently finished a renovation project at our house -- but if it's good I'll see if I can figure out a way to afford them. :thmbsp:

I've personally met Birddog- he's an awesome fella, incredibly kind. I can't speak highly enough of him. If you do go for them, tell him 'Deli sent you... :D

I look forward to hearing those Allisons- think they'd make the party with you?

I just refoamed my vintage bose 501 II's,my 1st refoam job also and I am having the same feelings about the ratlle in one of the speakers!
I do have them twisted back into their pretty tight.
I will go experiment with mine and get back to you,good thinking to pass
