Toasted Almond
RIP 1952-2016
Frowning at his speakers.

C,mon Brudha, you're waffling. The term "white van" implies the use of cheap parts and shoddy construction and a product sold under the pretense that it's of higher quality than it actually is. None of which is true of CV.
Nikko75 said:I think you mean the dB rating was 100dB @ 2.85V/1 meter. The average speaker is only 5% to 8% efficient.
Tom Brennan said:" You assumed something and tried running the flag up the flag pole with this assumption trying to make a point that people weren't even disputing or discussing."
If not then why when I said CV quality was on a par with JBL and Altec did you reply..........
"Altec and JBL? Come on now, now I know you're joking around"
Do you deny that "white van" implies cheap and shoddy?
You're waffling. And I'm mad as a hatter for even for giving a good goddam. Good Night.
Brudha said:I'm pretty sure everyone was referencing sound quality. Don't recall anyone even hinting about build quality.
I could have a speaker built of solid granite and probably make it sound like crap also. Who really cares about build quality if the sound drives the animals out of the house....?
Tom Brennan said:"Cerwin Vega = White Van"
A glib statement that betrays a lack of knowledge. Whatever one may think of CV sound the speakers were of high quality parts and construction, some on a par with Altec and JBL.
They were robust, capable of hard use and did exactly what they were designed to do in a reliable manner. Very good value.
Hardly white van.

jeffn said:I did ask before about the U-351 model but got no replies.......... so as a brand are they known for high quality or middle of the road or ..........?
i have no experience with them.
They were made around 1980..
I have heard Cerwin Vega called Certain Failure..........
I owned a pair of Cerwin-Vega D9s in the early 1980s that I gave to my in-laws. Those speakers have endured a lot of party abuse by my brother-in-law and to date are still going strong after more than 20 years.jeffn said:I have heard Cerwin Vega called Certain Failure..........

No sense trying to explain to Brudha because he already knows, he's just acting obtuse and perverse to amuse himself.
Like in the Monty Python sketch where a guy pays for an argument but only gets contradiction.
Toasted Almond said:"Nice car!"
"Yeah, it's built pretty solid."
"How does it handle?"
"Rolls over at the drop of a hat."
"Gas mileage?"
"She's good for about 3mpg."
"How's the ride?"
"Pretty stiff, you feel every bump and the road/engine noise is horrible."
"Can you put the whole family in it?"
"Not if you want to take luggage. The trunk is miniscule."
"Can I ask why you...."
"Well, it's built pretty solid."
Now THAT'S funny!Soooo.... i am guessing that I can do better for $200Aus ($150US) for a pair of the U-351 CV's ....... 3-way with 15" woofers?
Aren't you glad you asked?
