8080DB - Flashing Red Protector Light

:wtf: I've taken my old 8080DB receiver out of storage (for more than 10 years) and tried powering-up. Alas, the protector light stays red & flashing - no music! I think it ran fine before storing and can't recall anything that could have damaged it (old age?). I'm not an electronics tech, but can change fuses - I see this unit has several 7A fuses (like 4) and a 3A fuse that might need replacing. anyone know if that might do it, or have any hints on the problem? :cry:

Check the fuses. If they are blown, then the unit has blown outputs. If not, then offset is misadjusted, or the driver board has a problem, or the protection circuitry needs fixing (lazy driver transistor or some such).

There are a LOT of things that will cause what you see. Unfortunately, the solutions are just as numerous.
 
Travis man, Welcome to AK! If you click on page 3 at the bottom of front page, you will see this same problem with a 9090db. The problem with mine turned out to be on the driver board with output resistors,also i had 4 output transistors which showed leakage. I'm expecting to hear back when fixed, i sent mine to a repair shop in Ct. Good Luck with yours! Pete
 
Travis, pull the driver board and chect the two resistors on the bottom outside corners of the driver board, they should be 180ohm, if they are open or a larger value you have found the problem, These are fuse resistors and after sitting and the unit gets powered up the filter caps on the driver board draw to much current on the initial charge up and blow the resistors, the orginals were 1/4W 180 ohm fuse resistors, replace them with 1/2w 180ohm flame proof resistors. I will bet the problem will go away. The resistor numbers are R33 and R34. Also check all the resistors along the bottom of the board (near the connector) you may find some others bad. Do you know the color code for resistors? PM me if you need any other information.

Travis, it's broken. Take it to someone who knows how to fix it.
