C-28 preamp

Appropos of nothing :-)

I had the hood open recently on my C-28 to clean the function selector switch. I figured it was a good time to snap a few pictures, so I thought I'd share one.

Best of all, I FINALLY took care of the balkiness of the phono sections by a careful and thorough cleaning with CAIG Deoxit. This was the third time I tried cleaning the switch (I was having trouble getting both channels to 'come on' without turning the selector off-detent), but the first try with Deoxit.

The previous two times I used (apparently!) inferior contact cleaner ("Brand R")... and it didn't solve the problem.

How's that for a testimonial!

I've had the same problem too. Did you get into the switch from the insides?

I've tried using a Radio Shack contact cleaner (not Deoxit) from the outside, and it does not do a thing.

I got to the switch "from the insides" in that I opened the premap (as you see) to clean the switch. The switch construction is open (it's that multisectioned blue monstrosity visible in the foreground of the photo on the right-hand side). R/S contact cleaner didn't help much, but Deoxit did the job.

I didn't clean anything else. Pots are not noisy on this ol' rascal.

I found that even when I take off the lid, getting at the pots inside the front is real hard. There is the faceplate, and then some of the boards run real close to the faceplate. Not much spare room. At best, I could only get to spray the top of the switch. I did not want to even attempt removing the front faceplate. I'll look for de-oxit, looks like it may do the trick.

I was pretty honked when I found out that the Guitar Center
1/4 mile form my house carries all the Caig stuff after I mail ordered and paid shipping for some!
