Yamaha TX-900U Lamps.....HELP!

I just received a Yamaha TX-900U tuner from an eBayer. Unfortunately, the two small lamps that are used as backlight for the LCD display are burnt out. They are wire lead lamps, but there are no markings. They are both wired to a four pronged plug that is plugged into the board for power. I replaced them with 12V RadioShack mini-lamps (exactly the same physical size), but the display is a bit dim. I'm guessing I might need lower voltage lamps, and I'm hoping someone has the specs for these lamps......and I'm assuming (big mistake, I know) that the other Yamaha Tuners with the prefix TX utilize the same lamps, so any members with TX tuners, please feel free to chime in.
I tried the Yamaha site, but no parts list is available.

Not familiar with that series, but if you call their parts dept (714-522-9888) they could tell you and they may even have the lamps in stock. That is a California number so time it accordingly.

Just got off the phone with the Yamaha parts dep't........very friendly and knowledgeable folks. I ordered the part for about $15 including shipping, and they said it should arrive in about a week.
Why I needed this tuner, I have no idea, as I have numerous tuners around the house. I figured I would rotate my 1986 Yamaha A-520 amp into the mix, and it needed a tuner that matched it somewhat. It'll be replacing a Citation 23 Tuner/Citation 21 Pre/HK 730 used as an amp. Using my Klipsch Forte IIs, I'm not looking to improve the sound, just to have some different toys to play with. The HK 730 is a tough act to follow with vintage Klipsch speakers........but we shall see.

You are most welcome, I find the folks at Yamaha Parts to be very helpful and friendly. Though I had a bit of a chuckle day before yesterday. When I emailed my contact about getting a service manual for the CR-1000 he wrote back and said "Of all the 30 year old receivers this one does not deserve to be restored, the multiple switches are a big problem, no parts are available, why do you want to restore it?"

Gave him my usual answer "Because."

9.2 volts......they are the exact same physical size as the 12V RadioShack 12V two wire mini lamps.
The part I ordered is two bulbs wired to a connector that plugs into the board.
The 12V RS lamps I wired in do work........but the light is a bit dim in daylight. So I figured I should get the correct part if it was available. Thankfully, they had it. :D
 
Excellent info, I was wondering why they charged so much, they're pre-wired, I wonder if my cheapo 12v, 100ma would have worked?? Problem is, I think they're only 3mm in diameter, Have a great Thanksgiving, Dave. :yes:

I guess you are talking about that one that was listed from Lithia, Florida? It looked pretty nice and was supposedly in "perfect working order". I almost bid on it. Has the seller offered any compensation for the lamps being burnt out?
 
I bought this same Yamaha tuner at my local Goodwill for $9.99 just a couple of months ago. It is a very nice sounding unit. It picks up stations better than my Pioneer TX-8500II tuner (though doesen't sound as full as it) and has a great looking display. I hate the plastic face and buttons, but for $10.00 I can't complain. Nice tuner.
