Just wanted to leave some positive feedback for Pustelniakr. He really knows his Pioneer gear. He looked at and fixed my SX-450 receiver at a very good price. I'm very impressed and I am considering purchasing some better gear from him sometime in the future. So if you've got some decrepit Pioneer gear, give him a PM. He does a great job. :thmbsp:

Owen, this is the 450 that had the bum power switch, yes? Did Rich manage to fix that?? If so, I'm truly impressed!

Thanks my friends. I enjoyed the challenge that SX-450 provided. I must say, I'm quite impressed with how nice that little guy sounds (and looks).

Yes, that power switch was in dire need a a rebuild. Nothing that a bit of contact burnishing couldn't take care of. The real problem was that this guy was a virtual nest of fractured solder joints.I have a new appreciation of wire-wrapped connections, with their 50 year life expectancy. 30 years appears to be too long for solder applied by wave action.

This experience has taught me that a complete resoldering is in order for ALL my units (in addition to a good re-capping, and re-rubbering)...

How am I gonna be able to let go of my own units? LiteFuse will testify that he almost had to draw down on me to let him have his receiver back. Me and that little 450 just got to know each other so well over the weekend...

:lmao: And here I was thinking that switch was a total goner. I'm glad you were able to get some extra mileage out of it, Rich. And to get inside those buttons to clean 'em, too. They totally stymied me. Nice work.

Once I removed the speaker/power switch assy from the unit, the power switch came apart easily. I was very glad it was not sonically welded together. Just held together by the mounting hardware :) Getting to it was a nice challenge though.

Most of the vintage Pioneer I've worked on used Alps switches and controls. They made some very nice stuff back in the day...

Yes, it really does sound great. Hooked a set of pioneer bookshelf speakers and a vintage 1985 Technics CD player up to it and man, that thing really puts out for 15 watts! :guitar:

Yup. That's the puppy. It takes some doin to get to it, but it cleans up real nice. I wish microswitch manufacturers would make their contacts accessible like Alps did with this switch.

CT-F1250 Motor back in action!

Thanks for fixing up my CT-F1250's motor! Now another AK'er can get back to repairing the whole deck.

Rich charges more than reasonable prices and gets the job done FAST!

I got so into it, I decided to suspend the re-capping of my CT-F1000s (there are 4 to do over the holidays), to restore the transport of one of my own CT-F1250s, including the reel motor (standard for me with these). My joy at seeing the immediate fruit of my labor was delayed, as the unit has glazed and swollen pinch rollers. Good ol' Terry Witt is working his magic (as only he can) making me some brand new ones.

Enjoy your re-newed sweetheart. I know she'll being singing like a siren in no time, and for a nice long time to come :music:

I also would like to chime in here and extoll the virtues of the Tech Rabbi.He turned my project around in incredibly short order despite my insisting there was no rush at all. Rich went through my Nikko preamp and took out a bunch of hack repairs, fixed them the right way, and had it back to me in superior packaging in just a few days.

I was sufficiently impressed that I promptly sent the box right back with another piece in it!
