The speaker God's were :) on me today.... Hit my local TS before going home and headed to the little room with all the electronic junk and what do I see.... Hmmm 2 sets of apeakers with a Kenwood amp, tuna, and pioneer tape deck sitting on a pair of Sansui speakes SP-9000??? BUT these were on top of a larger pair of speakers... No tag... Hmmmm look in the back and what do I see but KLIPSCH FORTE....... GOOD :yippy: How much??? $10.00 each... so $20.00 for the pair... SOLD!!!!!!

Now it looks like there has been an added band of veneer at the top???? They are on stands also....

I just gave a Bud a set of Infinity SM's so I had room for the JBL 100's

One more garage project:)

Excellent score OMI!Forte's for $20 is one helluva deal!I have some Forte II's which are great.......but I think I paid more than $20. :D

Top-notch score. I've always held the Forte in high esteem, but stopped looking for a pair after stumbling onto some Cornwalls for twice your paid sum: which is still an excellent deal. I am quite interested to hear your impressions on their sound as Fortes could be closer to my "listening groove." :scratch2: (Whereupon I'd be quite willing to make you an offer!)

In any event, let us know how that garage projects works out.
 
O.K. Hooked 'em up to the garage receiver and there are some issues... One woofer has issues. It has the basket separating from the magnet and this is causing the VC to rub. There is a gasket of some type of compressed material that is glued between the basket and magnet. It has separated (unglued from both the basket and magnet) and is allowing the magnet to pivot on the points where it is still glued......

The cone, VC, spider and rest appear to be in great shape... When I push the magnet flat against the gasket and basket the cone and VC move in and out freely.

I called Klipsch for some input on a fix. No luck. Just hit Wally world at lunch for some epoxy. Will see about dabbing 2500# epoxy around the gasket and reattach it to the basket. If that works then on to the second issue... The tweet and the mid in other speaker may not be working. Have not removed them. If I can fix the woofer, then I will look at the tweet and mid. Done some research and it may be a simple? Diapgram replacement.

A bud at work loaned me his heat gun and I removed the added veneer (paper backed with rubber cement so came off nice with the heat gun) from the 2 speakers. Found out why there was the veneer work done.... The one speaker has a large dent in the top... and the veneer was covering it...

If I succed in correcting the first 2 issue I will makes these speakers my second ever veneer job:)

I think we have done it!!!!!

I epoxyed the gasket and basket and magnet last night…. Hooked it up this A.M. and we had sound…. Seems to be working fine and have not noticed any rubbing of the VC…. Good sign…

Took the tweet out of the speaker where it was not working and exchanged it with the good one… Worked like a champ in the other speaker… Hmmmmm… Could it be an issue with the cross over????

Removed the cross over from both of the speakers to see what they looked like…

Hmmmm one sure don’t look like the other….

Hmmmmm … transformer (?) all hangin’ loose on one with a capacitor (?) not connected…

Could that be the problem????

Re set the transformer… Fired up the El Cheapo soldering iron and soldered the gizmo to the same location as the good cross over…

Fired up the speakers and we had SOUND….

Sounded pretty good hooked up to my garage receiver…. :music:

Looks like keepers….

I cleaned all the old rubber cement from the tops of both speakers…

I see a veneering project in my future….

The TS was asking 2 for $50.00, but they would have dealed... Most likely they went for $20 or $25 for the pair... Gone this A.M. when I stopped in...

Congrates! I won't tell you what I paid for mine. If they were mine, I'd be taking them out of the garage and moving them into a less hostile enviroment like the living room but that's just me.

I just gave a pair of Infinity SM-120s to a friend so I could move the JBL100Ss in.. I have a pair of JBL80Ts, Pioneer DSS-9s, Sansui SP-Z9II (KABUKI HO..), Sansui SP-1500 and a pair of Concert's (Never able to get info, but nice wood cab, older 3 way speaker).

Was listening to an Oldies radio station a bit ago and the speakers sound great. Will have to give 'em a real test in a few days and see what they sound like at higher volume...

Was working out in the garage today with a tank top Tee... We get all of 2 weeks of winter where I am at and we aint no where near that yet:) So the speakers can stay in the garage. I have do do a veneer job on 'em as one of the speakers was all dinged up on the top. I live near an Army base and my guess is that these speakers were damaged at some time in the past on a move... Looking around for veneer on the web tonight....
 
Will be my BIG veneer job...

Ordered 2 rolls of Red Oak from www.tapeease.com with "hot melt" glue already on the back of the veneer (iron on). $24.00 each... so $48.00. Stuff was in their overstock area. Had some minor issues on the rolls, but will not impact what I want to do and the price was right... Will end up with a pile left over. The cabs are a LITTLE over 12 inches wide and the pre-glued comes in 2ft X 8ft rolls.... So needed 2 rolls..... Will be my project for the next week or so after the veneer comes in...
 
I'm very much looking forward to seeing them when you're finished! My Cornwalls are a little rough and someinsight on how to do this sort of thing would be most valuable.

Insight... Insight....

Me..... I klutz my way into things like this.... Did a case for my KR-9050.... Hmmmm 6 or 7 out of a ten.... Did my cassette deck. Hmmmm Getting better... 8 out of ten..... And now for the BIG one:)

I will post pics as I klutz my way through this one and show you WHAT NOT to do:)

There are folks with much greater ability than I (Merrylander for one) that can give you some insight that is worth $$$$$...

Me... I'm a rank armature:)
