Most over rated Band

After seeing the Guitar threads and how those who can't be seen were bold enough to trash Jimi Hendrix, I thought it just maight be safe to post this. There are plenty of bands that have been hyped up over the years. Some lasted while some were One-Hit-Wonders.

My pick for most over rated (and liked) band has to go to Bruce Springstein.

For the life of me, I could never figure out what people see in him. He can't play a lick. He can't sing or hit a note. If it wasn't for Clarence, he wouldn't have much of a band. But lots of people throw good money at him and his albums year after year.

Coming in a close 2nd and 3rd in any order would be U2 & Pearl Jam.

There! I said it. So who do you think is over rated?

Well, if you consider how the Sex Pistols revolutionized the sound of British Punk and the 50 megaton blast their record created in the music industry, I'd say they deserve to be ranked up there with the most influential bands ever.

That being said, I can't disagree with your other three choices. Howz about Aerosmith?

I think also that Pink Floyd, besides Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon, isnt that great...I like a lot from Atom Heart Mother also...

In my eyes/ears, U2 is tremendously overrated as well as The Rolling Stones.
 
The Dave Matthews Band. Ugh. Someone explain to me his critical and mass popularity? Can't sing, can't play, songs stink.
The Grateful Dead. Horrible pseudo-country music. One Song - Truckin', worth a darn, and really only because of the numerous superior cover versions (most notably the multiple versions done by the Pop-O-Pies).
The Rolling Stones have been coasting since Some Girls.
Springsteen had a certain something, up until he released The River. Since then, he's fallen and he can't get up.
U2 had two career peaks, with War and The Joshua Tree, and the rest of their output is pretty mediocre.
Pearl Jam pretty much lucked out in the timing department. At any other point in history, they would be playing Mondays and Tuesdays at Uncle Charlie's Sauerkraut 'n' Suds.
Neil Young, perhaps because he nearly ran me over once, makes the list.
 
ELO - How could The Move give brith to that?
Pink Floyd - makes my list too. Maybe I don't smoke enough pot.
Van Halen - Yeah, it's fun, but come on!
Grateful Dead - See Pink Floyd
Guns N Roses - Where will we go now?

Have to take exception to some of the ones you guys listed. Rolling Stones? Come on! Why not throw in the Beatles and the Who while you're at it? And I relly like Neil Young. I gotta go with MG196 on Sex Pistols too. I'll agree that Coldplay is over rated, but still, a good band.

On a related note- The Strokes are very highly rated, and not a bit of it is over. This band may save Rock N Roll.
 
No contest: Led Zeppelin. The kings of schlock.

Gunning for a three-way very close second place tie is Aerosmith, Grateful Dead, and The Who.

FWIW, There's nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. I'm a lightweight cuz' I've only been to 20 or so, but it's more than just the music. guess you'd have to be there and in the proper "state of mind"
Springsteen I only saw once. It was the infamous Milwaukee Bomb Scare show on his tour promoting "Born to Run". Concert was stopped and delayed until midnight and Bruce and the boys played until after 2:00 in the old Uptown Theatre. Friggin' great.

Overated??? Aerosmith, Journey and all the 80's hair bands. Don't care much for Kiss either.

Hey Eddie, I love the Strokes too and have seen 'em twice live, but have you heard their newest track, Juicebox? Ummm...I hope it isn't a sign of how the new album is gonna sound!!!
 
U2, the lead guitar sounds like a set of 3 irritatingly small bells being hit by a nervous twitch. Should of called it "Joshua's Bell".

Sorry Clint; The White Stripes. I'll second that vote for Zeppelin, too. They were great in their day - but it's nighttime now. Another band I am learning to avoid - the Eagles.
