Stacked Epi 100's??

Just wondering if anybody ever stacked a set of these babies? I picked up a second pair of them yesterday -- totally mint with original foam still intact (though not for long I am sure) and was thinking of trying this out.

Any thought on this matter and whether it will sound at all decent would be appreciated.


2nd pair of mint epis this week for me...other people's spring cleaning, I love you!

I tried it once. It was interesting, but given their small footprint they were unstable in the carpeted room I was using them in.

I'm not a fan of stacking, but there are many stacking fans around.

By all means, give it a try, but make sure your amp is up to handling a 4 ohm load. Also, pop for some new 10mF caps (one for each cab) and hear them "spring" to life.

Yep. I would. I tried it both ways. Neither lasted very long, as they sound so fine on their own. YMMV.

I used four pea-sized pieces of Blu-tak to secure the cabs to each other.

You could, but keep in mind the sympathetic vibrations that would come from the unused pair.

Speakers don't make good speaker stands, IMHO.:no:
 
Stacking EPI 100's and other similar speakers

Hi,

I have stacked Advents, AR3a's, Yamaha NS1000M and EPI 100's to name a few. Stacking is always a GREAT idea. A very easy way to get more great sound. Usually when I begin stacking I raise the first set off the floor on a stable stand. A step stool stand at Walmart works well. The the second set I turn UPSIDE DOWN on the first set. Mating tweeter to tweeter. The third set goes right side up....woofer to woofer. Etc. Etc. You can also turn them to get better dispersion. Look at EPI's original designs to get ideas. They were very good at this and had many stacked models they sold. 201's were my favorite. MichaelAlanMarks@aol.com

Stacking is always a TERRIBLE idea in comparison to acquiring better speakers.

It's AXIOMATIC: Multiple sources playing the same program material in the same space WILL interfere with each other.... :yes:

....and yet the stacked Advents are considered far and wide to be one of the greatest audio loudspeaker systems in history. This would interfer with your axiom because it doesn't take into account any positive results from the stated intererence; it also cancels out your first statement as well as it is obviously not "always a terrible idea".

If the Advents were found to be a diamond in the rough, there must be others out there that are too. The epi 100 is a somewhat closely related speaker that has some similarities to the Advents which is why I am wonder. I don't agree that it is always a good idea either, but it certainly worth trying out.

They were meant to be stacked! The EPI 1000, the tall one in the back, was actually four EPI "modules". Would blow your socks off!
