How high to go with stacked Advents??

Guys i need some opinions on how high to build my stands for a setup of stacked advent bullet nose speakers? Right now i have them stacked to see how high they sit on the stands and the top speaker (the upside down one) is at around 52 inches. THe full stack from the floor to the ceiling is 73 inches high on my mock stand im using for testing. THis puts the top speaker around 6 inches from the ceiling of my basement (i have low ceilings down there)

IM wondering if this is too high or not high enough...perhaps just right?
How high do you run your stacked setups?

Standing the tweets are below ear level and sitting they are just above ear level. I want to say weather you are standing or sitting you have a woofer in your face :)...not quite but close. IM wondering how to position them as i wont always be siting and i wont always be standing while listening.....

IM looking for a happy in between somewhere that will yeild good results.

I have mine so the interface between the two speakers is at the ear level of my sitting listening position. Top of the stack is 64.5". You can go somewhat lower but I certainly wouldn't go any higher. This should yield good results for standing or sitting.

This works best for me but may not work for anyone else. I've stacked them vertically tweeter to tweeter on 7 inch stands, horizontally woofer to woofer and tweeter to tweeter on a 3 foot knee wall and horizontally woofer to tweeter and woofer to tweeter on a 3 foot knee wall. The last arrangement sounds best to me. I can do triples but it would be too physically unstable for any, if any, gain in sound I might get.

Although I'm sure the vertical stack also has its advantages, that actually makes sense from an intuitive stand point. The similar drivers are closer together instead of having the woofer on opposite ends. And it would seem to provide a more realistic and horizontal Cinerama effect.

Plus stacking vertically makes me nervous about stability let alone about earthquakes. Besides I have seen the long term consequences of storing speakers stacked on top of each other where cabinet joints are split.

I do like elevating speakers though. I have speakers about 3 1/2 feet above the floor.

We actually studied the different orientations on-axis in one of these, using A-25s.

Now if we only had such analysis on double Large Advents, instead of A25s.

True enough, to a point. Anything more than a.....etc, etc.

I've decided to retire my stacked Advents and replace them with a single pair of Polk 10a's.

We did a bit of analysis of your system in another thread recently, and it's clearly far more comprehensive in approach than simply stacking two pair on top of each other.... :yes:
 
Would the woofers couple better stacked on their sides ? Drivers as close to each other as possible.
Of course you now have two woofers with the Polk 10a, correct ?
 
It's about wavelength, and generally, the closer they are, the higher the frequency they will couple, which is not necessarily desirable.

Stacking tweet to tweet in a quasi-MTM alignment seems to be preferred; better with one of those tweeters off, theoretically.

I haven't yet measured an Advent stack.... :dunno:

The polk has a single 10" passive radiator.

Excellent choice.

Why stack 2 when 1 will do? I have a pair of Advent 5002 I really like, but I loooove my Polk 10Bs.
