PM, these probably are C36s, with D130 woofers and either 175s or 077 tweets. You need to get them if possible. Check your PM...

May have any of a variety of optional loads in them, though system "030," D130, 075, and N2400 crossover was the most popular, virtually defining '60s Hi-fi. Crossover model tells you what's in them, basically.
Eminently upgradeable if the front baffle is removable from the rear; mint examples can command over a grand, depending upon the driver complement. The legs alone can bring over $200 for a set of 8.... :thmbsp:

Darn! I forgot to take a picture of the XO.
It had six terminals, with two for the amp in on the bottom of the plates, and two each for the drivers at the top of the plate, which were also both switchable (for contour? resistance?). I couldn't really go over them too closely, as it would have been impolite. But he did offer them to me for the same amount as W is cutting checks for, and we shook hands on it for a "hold" for a few weeks.

Very nice! C36.. I've got a really sweet pair myself I scored for $75... Mine have the wood legs though.
Mine have D123 woofers and 075 bullet tweets... they sound really great, and turned into keepers. My intension was flip them, but they sounded way too good.. especially for the price.

I recently ran across a pair of nice C38 cabs with just a single D123 driver in each one. I unfortunately wound up parting them out, but I'll tell you that I got roughly the same amounts of money out of the woofers, the feet, and the grills. Those feet are rediculously valuable.
Those look really nice -- I'd sure like to hear a pair...

I can't tell you about the pair he has since no idea on the drivers, but the ones I have blew me away when I turned them on.
Very wide stage, the sound surrounds you and floats like I never imagined it would. I was surprised at how much bass they had too.. The highs are very clean and bright. The mids seem to have a little coloring to me though, but I think because I am used to listening to large horns is why the mids just don't seem to be what I am used to.
If a person comes across any of these speakers, I would say even at 3 or 400, they would be a very wise buy so long as they are loaded with JBL drivers. The 075 tweets in mine are worth around $400 alone. You won't go wrong.
I got vey lucky, and mine are in fantastic shape. No scratches, nicks or dings at all. I've got pictures of them up somewhere around here.

These JBL's like long walks on the beach, listening to Dean Martin with a pretty blonde, and going home with YOU :yes: I think they're C36's yes ? I've got a pair but they sit on their long side . . . D130 15's and 075 horn tweets - they sound GREAT.
I love JBL C36's - you will too if you get them :thmbsp:
Man, those are nice. I've always like that JBL series from that particular era. Just the styling of the cabinets alone make them worth the admission.

No, this is a personal deal. They're certainly worth the six bills he wants, but I'm not 100% sure they're ultimately worth that to me. I may just end up helping him sell them.

I've had both the vertical Viscount and horizontal Baron version. While this speaker was undoubtedly the feline's posterior in the '60s, a lot has happened in the realm of speakers in the last 45 years.

Recently a friend and I auditioned the 030 loaded Barons against Cornwalls and Valencias at my house. He liked the Barons, I liked the Vals. We both disliked the Cornies.
I'm not hating on JBL. I have a pair of L-112s running now that are as close to a flawless speaker that I've ever found in their size and price bracket. I have into these less than 1/3 of what I'd have to pay for 030 C38's and the L-112s do everything except sensitivity and (maybe) looks, better.
I just think the Viscount has been bettered in the years since it was designed. If it was me (a complete mercenary) I'd buy them and use them until I got bored, then biff them off to a rich Japanese collector for a big profit.
