Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

Hi fellows,

I need a few pieces of info to prepare the arrival of the Econo-waveguide:

1. The compatible driver is selenium 220Ti, Do I need the screw type
or bolt on?
2. I need to equalise the waveguide off axis, how many degree? i will use
Zilch's x-over as a guide.
3. Any other suggections?

Screw-on.

From your normal listening position.

Geddes's measurements showed them to be flat within +/- 2 dB out to 30° horizontally, and 15° vertically, once EQ'd.

It's Jackgiff's crossover, BTW. All I did was verify his excellent design.... :thmbsp:
 
I rugged my dumpster boxes. NOT a pro job. However, my lungs and apartment are very evenly coated with 3M's SUPER 77 spray adhesive. Besides the hacking, wherever I walk, my feet pick up bits of everything.

The dollies look good, a must have; got to get some.

Harbor freight, 14.99. While driving around KC yesterday, I noticed they have a brick and mortar store here. Guess I didnt have to order.
Also saw almost the exact same thing at U-Haul for twice the price. HF has them for 14.99, allegedly have 1000 lbs capacity. Work well enough for my purposes. Sure makes things easier.

Thanks Zilch. I will stop thinking about that idea and stick with what I have and be happy with it (til upgrade bug comes along at a later time.)
 
Dual woofs playing that high are bad in concept. Fine if you lowpass one as a "helper" only. That may also help the OB bass. Last part's speculative; I don't do OB....

CS2 from Eminence physics x-over around 1Khz. My system with dual 12" parrallel woofers LP x-over around 1.5Kz coupled to compr driver HP x-over around 1.7Khz seems to work OK. BTW my system is OB.

When you say high how high?

For a 2 way system, normal x-over is around 1.5-1.7 Khz. Audio Kinesis x-over around this freq, his systems are all 2 way.

Whatever frequency generates phase interference in the specific alignment and application.

In 9844, dual 12" horizontal close together, 200 Hz worked for Skywave.

We didn't investigate how high we could go; we didn't want higher....
 
All this talk of two drivers is making my head spin. Two woofers instead of one would make the pair 3 db more efficient than a single right? Wonder how a Diappolito type alignment with econowave in the middle would work? Would that cure the problems Zilch and others have had when double woofers are not used in the "helper" woofer setup, 2.5 or whatever? Plus, it would be in "tower" format as well, improving the height of the high frequency drivers.
H-MMMMMMMMMM. When done correctly, the Diappolito alignment allegedly controlled the response of the mid/woofer drivers, avoiding side wall reflections and so forth....dont know if the formula concerning driver size, driver spacing and crossover frequency would work here.

D'Appolito alignment controls the vertical in an engineered fashion.

The horizontal is unaffected.

It's floor and ceiling reflections, not sidewall.

Unless you use it horizontally, another story.

I have a set of speakers I built in the 90's that are one of his designs (Aria 5)
Its been a while since then, and I've forgotten the theory, I thought I remembered horizontal, apparently incorrectly. I have the Dickason book somewhere.....

Zilch your plots, show the effects of damping, but the changes are not very dramatic, form sound point of what have you observed? I am thinking of buying it, it worth putting it on?
 
It's kind of indeterminate, isn't it?

There's a major difference in sound when you thump it, but in the measurements, the changes are subtle, and there's not much effect where it might really count.

I'll have to do some listening evaluations, but for now, I'd say it's not worth the expense and effort.

I'd like to try the sand box approach a vibration analysis expert suggested on another forum, just to see how that compares.... :thmbsp:

Have you tried any of the "cement options" described in that Heritage thread?
I like the idea of plaster/sand. Don't know if that can stick to non porous plastic, will ask a plasterer I know.

Still waiting for baffles.

Have not received my square waveguides yet, you?
