Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

If you contact 18sound, you get directed to their distributor in Miami. If you call them, there is about a 10% chance of getting them to sell you something direct but most often, they will pass you on to one of their two dealers depending on where you are located.

If it's not listed on those sites, an order from the distributor in Miami is placed so you get to deal with one of those two in any case.

18-Sound

Kinda off topic, but for E'Wave experimenters, Skywave just sent me this link:

http://www.loudspeakersplus.com/html/18sound_horns.html

XD120 includes the XT120 waveguide, which I've previously shown in AR4x and other conversions here. Bolt-on versions of Seleniums will fit.... :thmbsp:

Edit: The driver alone is on clearance, also:

It has been superseded by an "improved" version:

[Can't get those for $14.99 apiece, tho.... ;) ]

FYI:
If you try to order thru the site, you won't get the clearance price, they have not updated the shopping cart yet. Call them instead.

One pair done!

Finished the front channel speakers for my EconoWave HT setup. Now the center channel guy is next. He uses an LE111H and 6 inch square waveguide. That one will be more fun, since there is some new ground to explore. It fits on the hanger above the TV, and the dangling wire is it's signal source.

So, how good is the on-sale combo and how does it compare to the similar-sized JBL/Selenium EWG?

I don't know.

I have the newer HD125 driver with that waveguide, the XD125 combo, in a KLH-17 here, and I believe I called that "smooth." If you asked me what driver I have on the XT120 waveguide in the AR4x, I'd have to open one up to make that determination; BMS 4540, maybe, or JBL 2408H.

The "equivalent" JBL would be either the 8" or 6" square PT waveguide, not the standard E'Wave, and I have Selenium D220Ti on both of those, with the 8" in an Original Large Advent, and the 6" not mounted in anything.

SO, when a "Clearance" item like this comes available, the best I can do is afford anyone interested in doing so an opportunity to immerse themselves in similar experimental chaos and join the fun....

Great answer, thnx! They look almost like a specwise "drop-in" for the "dhorms" on the Pioneer Sound Project CS-R300 with the stock XO. Since the SX-1980 that was holding them to the floor is now gone I've been able to briefly audition one of them and it seems to "prefer" the Hammarlund's triode-connected P/P 6V6 amp to S/S. The stock AR-4x blows it away on S/S. Translating all that to this project is otherewise beyond my experience.

Russell!

2225 and 2235 impressions? Curious your thoughts on these 2 now that you've had
more time with um? The JBL 4628B cabs I picked up have the 2225H in them rather
then the E145, not sure wether I'm happy or unhappy, with the 2225 specs vurses
the E145 for my particular needs/wants, although I believe the E145 is more sought.

Buy a pair, build the E'Wave crossover, and stick them on top of your upside-down AR4x.

If you like the result, break out the SawZall, install them in the cabs, and sell the vintage tweeters to recoup some of the cost.
