You can see that Mac opted for 2380A in place of HL92 in his backyard build, and others are trying E'Wave's PT waveguides, as well, typically the 1.5" version, in their 43xx projects.

My 3-way used 2380A with E'Wave as the supertweeter instead of the slot, 4/5/2006, and Mac sent me a bottle of native single malt in appreciation when he built his quasi-L300 clones just over a year later.... :thmbsp:

Is the 1.5" version of the CD horn a JBL part, or is there a Pyle version out there? :scratch2: I know there are 2 larger Pyle CD horns;

They are JBLs.

There are literally hundreds of different CD horns available; it's a relatively mature technology. The newer PT waveguides measure and sound better, which is why we use them in E'Wave, for two-way.... :yes:
 
I had a pair of Summits for years and always enjoyed so much listening to them.
Hurricane Katrina came along and my Summits sat in 7 feet of water for a week.
I think about them sometimes.

The L300 is an outstanding speaker. The 077 ring radiator delivers very sweet HF, with a tactile quality and high resolution. The H92/LE85/L91 horn/compression driver/ acoustic lens combo is the best of the vintage conical offerings from JBL. Very realistic midrange/ vocal reproduction. Very smooth. The 136a and 136H 15" woofer variants deliver very strong and accurate bass that has to be heard/felt to be believed. All-around excellent sounding speakers with any type of music. They're very easy to drive and beautiful to look at. I have many hours of listening experience with these awesome jewels. One of the best all-around performers of any brand.
Pound for pound, I'd go as far to say, a solid top ten 10 choice of all time :yes:

Yeah I agree heavy as HELL but in a big room they were amazing. I think few people have heard them in a room with 15-20 ceilings and maybe 12-15 feet back.. most houses just aren't that big. But with the upward tilt of the cabinet the ring tweeter is really sweet that far away. SPL's out of this world. They can be driven with 10-20 watts but with a hefty 200 or so watts they really open up.I see why they are lusted after in Asia to this day.
