Very cool Speaker, thought I'd share it!

Well I am not sure what I am even going to do with this yet! Seems like it might be a bit to big for my home, and to loud to hook up in the garage. Almost passed on it due to its size, However thanks to my audio crack habit...I couldn't turn the 75 dollar tag. Maybe I will build an outdoor theater, or maybe I'll have a hell of a bonfire! Enough boring talk, heres the pictures!

OH... and really.. any project ideas? I don't even know where to begin, kind of overwhelming to me.

I wouldn't have passed it up either. Nor would I know what to do with it.
I'm sure my wife would have ideas though, like making it my coffin!

Cool looking speaker, the dog kinda took me by surprise, thought he was going to jump right out of my screen!

I haven't actually weighed the speaker but I've never held any that were heavier. I would low ball it at 70 pounds. Definatly weighed more than the Sansui 9090 I had to move to make room on the shelf.

Haha yeah!

I just noticed it looks like there was at one point a horn attacked to the side. Guess this was lost somewhere along the line :sigh:

Also the wires into the speaker are each about the diameter of a quarter! Never seen anything like it before, another reason I thought I'd share this oddball.

I would be in the Dog House for sure!

That is a great piece! So...

How big is your back yard? :naughty: You could put in an Amphitheater with that thing...

Well the snow will be hitting the ground soon... guess I could come up with the amphitheater blue prints over the winter! Or maybe I just have that bonfire and stay warm this winter :yikes:

Looks like a bass system for a theater or something. Maybe a strange full range. But I am sure it gets loud.
Bet it sounds good too.
I would definitely restore that bad boy.

Feild coils are very rare. The hole in the cone is a problem though, I doubt you'd ever find a recone kit for it.

that is a very early theater bass horn...
and probably worth some serious coin...
you might get more info at the lansing heritage site...
great score!

Agreed, get in touch with Steve Schell (sp?) there, he can steer you toward others who have researched field coil speakers. Whatever you do, don't start taking it apart just yet, you just might have something fairly rare or valuable.

whoops, just saw your post of a few minutes ago, good luck (after the LH folks wake up in the morning.) Do a quick LH search on "field coils" and you'll come up with some interesting reading.
