You bring back good memories with those Criterion Vl speakers. Back in 1971 my mom bought these speakers for me at $99.00 a piece. Her salary was about $100.00 per week, so you can imagine how much I appreciated those speakers. I had them for about 25 years and use to drive them with a Kenwood integrated-amp and the sound was very punchy and clear. Sadly a lot of people don't care a too much about lafayette speakers but I did. As if they are good for tubes It all depends in how efficient they are. At this moment I don't remember. But you should give them a try and judge for yourself. They have a solid wood cabinet. Good Luck....
