More Carver / Phase Linear gear

SpeakerLabFan

< speakerlab 7's
Picked up a second Carver M-400 cube amp + a Carver C-1 Preamp and a Phase Linear Model 5100 tuner this afternoon via craigslist.

I'm going to use the two cube amps to bi-amp the Phase Linear Andromeda speakers, one for the subwoofer module and one for the panels. :music:

That's sweet! My first Carver purchases were the M-400t, C-1, TX-11 tuner, and the DTL-100 Time-Lens disc player back in the early '80s. Later sold the C-1 for the C-4000, and upgraded the 1st generation disc player for the 1-bit SD/A-450, and added a TFM-35x and another used M-400t for a DIY sub. I do miss my Carver gear...if my budget permitted I would've kept them all with my Maggies (MGLR1) for a second system. Such is life...:(

Hope you get many years out of your latest purchases...that C-1 with the brushed aluminum knobs is mighty fine!

Very nice, congrats! :thmbsp: Those Carver cubes aren't really much to look at, lol, but the preamp is just beautiful. :smoke:

my first garage sale score wasw a m400t ,c1 and a nikko tuner ,soundshaper EQ .The m400t is a power house and a very cool looking amp to boot.I don't use it much lately .It was what got me started into vintage gear

Thanks for that picture of your two cube setup with the Maggies - I bet that was sweet sounding. :music:

Heh, yeah the cubes don't do much but when the front panel lights start dancing you are rocking the house. The M-400 has a silver finish, and the M400t has a really nice looking bronze finish - kind of a Yamaha bronze.

I tested out that C-1 pre-amp this afternoon with another thrift store find from last week - an Adcom GFA-535 II power amp, driving a set of Speakerlab 1 speakers. Those little bookshelf 2-ways with the 8" woofers were sounding very nice. :music:

Yeah I definitely like the look and sound of the M400t. Wow, running into a M-400t at a garage sale probably doesn't happen very often, about as frequent as how we came into my M400t. Rat44 ran into it at a thrift store with a $4.99 price tag.:thmbsp:
