Yamaha CA-1010 : Class A mode

I have a Yamaha CA-1010 amplifier : It's seems working correctly in Class AB mode but as soon the operation selector is switched in Class A mode the volume level decrease a lot and the sound becames distorted.
Do you have suggestion?

If any of these dual mode Yamaha amps are switched between modes with the power on it eventually damages the switch. In the CA-1010 the switching is done by a relay so it is possible the relay contacts have become pitted and dirty.

I found the relay on the wiring diagram.
Do you think that I could try to clean it using a contact cleaner (Philips 390CCs spray)?
If is necessary to replace it : Is still available the relay as spare part?

I'm finding in this amp a very good sound.
I hope to repair it.

If you can get the cover off clean the contacts with a burnisher or fine grit (600) emery paper then clean them of any dust. I think DigiKey is carrying some of these PC mount relays.

Yes, the bias should be checked to make sure it's correct. I had to adjust mine. A side benefit was that DC offset was reduced, too! :) That's helpful, because offset is NOT adjustable on a 1010.

Also, I recommend using contact cleaner on all the switches and controls, cleaning the RCA jacks on the rear, renewing all the meter lamps if needed. I find I need to use contact cleaner every 18 months or so.
