Yes many of the fine members here are more then willing to share their manuals with you. However posting your wants in the forums is against the rules

You would know this if you had the decency to at least read this sites rules before jumping the gun. This shows how little regard you have for this site. Our rules apply to everyone and that include YOU Mr. I want this or that manual.

Bottom line is our mods are over worked all ready without having to constantly smack people up side the head over something as stupid as this. So please read the rules so we do NOT have to for you.

Is this what you considered requesting manual as listed on #5? Even I wouldn't have understood that in the first place.:scratch2: I'm only guessing at this point because that's the only thing that closest matches than the rest of the list. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Asking for help,manuals is still an ad none the less. There by falling under the non acceptable posting content.

I am not telling anyone not to post a want or for sale ad on AK. I am telling them NOT to post it in the forums !

All members ads belong in the members classifieds. No exceptions. Thank you

I'll have to remember that I can show and tell, but not ask for help in the fora. That is clear enough. OK by me.
 
Well.....wouldn't it be easier if EVERYONE was a subscriber? Then simply go to the "Super Secret Subscriber" area. Hint Hint to all of you non subscribers:) It is WELL worth the "pennies". I feel we are all here to help (some much more able than others). Being a subsciber is one way we all can help. Your subscription money keeps the "machine" going wether it is a software upgrade, hardware replacement or web fees. In return a subscriber has a place to ask for manuals, schematics, and such. Also there is a place called Barter Town. The name says it all. "And there's more" as Billy Mays says........If I am giving away to much info here, moderators please edit as needed.

I do believe that what Grumpy is mainly referring to is the "flash" member who joins up, posts a request for a manual, and is never heard from again.

I'm also guessing that the vast majority of people who do this are seeking to increase the value of an item that they can flip on an auction site.

There are plenty of manual resources out there for people who are willing to pay for them.
 
No one said anything about not being allowed to ask for help. This site has exploded with users in the last couple of years and if it is allowed to just turn into one "anyone have a..." post after another, it will turn into a crappy site.

So, you know, if you don't like the rules, there's a load of other sites out there.

If I understand this correctly it's the matter of creating a post just for the act of asking for a manual or other physical item, right? The posting of a problem and a request for assistance in understanding a problem so you can fix it is allowed, right?

If you're asking for a physical item or service, that needs to be started in the correct forum (Classified forum).
 
I will gladly cover this in case there is any confusion.

Anyone is free to post ( within the rules ) what they like as long as its not a for sale or wanted item.

If an item is involved then it must be posed in the members classifieds.

So for clarification and as an example - if I am looking to source a knob, lever or switch for my amp, I am not allowed to post a request for this in any general forum; it has to be done in Classifieds or Barter Town (for Subscribers).

This is straightforward - I was just unaware that this is strict policy. Live and learn, I guess.
 
I am one of many AK members who post a majority of the time to requests for help. I have thousands of service manuals, but would wear myself out scanning and emailing to support AK members IF I offered to do so. I've supplied 2 key schematics in the past, for the Dahlquist crossover and for a Luxman integrated, and still receive requests for a "free" copy. My desire that the information about our wonderful classic audio pieces not be lost is tempered by the burden of providing free service.
What then is the solution? I support archival efforts by others that maintaining open access databanks. I'd support an AK project to offer a fee-based manual service, as long as the server had a life if, God forbid, AK should shut down. As a method to support AK, and NOT have to scan and upload more than once, I'd be willing to start filling manual requests.
Grumpy, would you and your brain trust ponder the practical aspects of creating this type of enterprise? I believe it is a logical next-step to continue the Karmic conversations we have with each other. I'd be happy to serve on a study committee.
 
Doc,

A noble request but one that AK will have to pass on. We have attempted this in the past and due to bandwidth and labor problems we feel its just not worth the hassle.

And with that I am going to close and sticky this thread.
