Does any one own any Vintage Noresco Speakers?? (Canadian made)

Hi there. Don't have any now, but many years ago I had a pair, full-range 8" inside.
The good thing about them was the nice clear teak cabinets. Engineering of the box, simple construction, plain brown grillcloth, all standard issue for the day.
It wasn't until around the mid (or was it the late)-'70s when the National Reseach Council found a way to provide anechoic chamber services from their Ottawa lab that Canadian speakers became real world-class products.
But the cabinets weren't as nice as the '60s models...

I have a pair of Noresco model NEC-564 (if my memory is serving me correctly) at my workplace. They have (piezo?) horns and 10" woofers. There is a treble attenuator on the back of each cabinet.
I can take & send or post pics of them sometime if you like...

I've had about 3 or 4 pair of the larger Noresco's with the Isophon Oval woofers(10"x14"?), and the suspended 3" cone tweeter in the middle. I sold most of those to Dr. Hsu, of Hsu Research Speaker Company...Los Angeles. I've had quite a few 521's, as pictured below... 7" Alnico woofer 3" paper tweeter.(12 watts) Same as used in alot of Telefunkens. Some of the larger ones we had, used the 7"x11" woofers and same 3" tweeters. I have had a few 8" dual cone, 7" ,6", 5"..all Philips dual cone...some have had huge magnets on the smaller ones. Some of the 6" and under have cloth rolled suspenions. The odd rubber suspenion Philips..most paper in the 6"-8"... I have parted out everyone I have had. Some of the last ones built ,had cheap crappy foamy woofers in them...they weren't anything like the earlier models,for quality!! I picked up the pair pictured below, at a thrift store for $6.00 The tweeters usually sell right away, on Ebay...to Japan ,S Korea,or Hong Kong. We only have 1x Very Rare pair of Noresco's in storage...My son found them about 3 years ago at a swapmeet ,near Vancouver,BC. I think he paid $50.00 for them ...They are in boxes approx. 2'x2'x2'...with tilting aluminium frames.
12" Rubber Philips Woofer. 3 or 4 way?? Philips dome tweeters..and I think dual Philips 5" dual cone mids. I'll have to crawl in the storage next week and have a better look..and maybe snap a picture!! Most of the Noresco' sound great for Jazz or Classical!! I also have 2 Noresco Receivers..1 of them is a Quadraphonic unit..both work well! I also have a nice simple teak Dual Tuner and matching teak low wattage Amp..early 1970's + Dual Cassette

Dunno what ever happened to the unit, but Dual/Noresco was the first stereo system that I bought circa 1970 (student special). Noresco brought in Dual turntables and mated them in one unit with their own brand electronics, and with their own brand speakers. If I remember right, mine was a Dual 1215 TT, combined in one unit with a receiver. Not too shabby, but those speakers...

I haven't been able to listen to them much, as there are a few other sets of speakers at my workplace.

My grandfather owns a set of the 521's (bought new)
I recently acquired a very rare set of Noresco 5870's. These speakers are omni-polar and are currently serving as the surround sounds in my home theater. I'm not sure what it has for mids and tweeters as the top half of the cabinet doesn't come apart, but the mid section contains 2 8" woofers face into each other. The bottom section of the box is just air space and insulation. They are rated at 75w @ 8 ohm.

Noresco sure sounds a lot like Norelco/Phillips! Could this brand have been the first Canadian built "white van" speakers!!!! Just kidding as they look like well made speakers using quality European sourced drivers in the older models. It would seem these were never offered for sale in the U.S. although I'd bet some US residents living near the Canadian border bought some Noresco's over the years they were available.
I just bought a set like yours but it looks like the PO recovered the cloth fronts. I bought them at Goodwill for $5.00.

Acronus....Your Noresco's do look rare!!! Never seen them before! The large pair of 2'x2'x2' Noresco Cubes my son has.... are rare around here....No one in our area has ever seen another pair before. I have found a few more pairs of the large Isophon 2-way Ovals, since my earlier postings!

Well, as mentioned in a previous comment, my grandfather owned a set of mint 521's. He unfortunately passed away recently, and I inherited the set. I'm currently using them in my bedroom. They are hitched up to a Sony CMT-EX1 cd player/amp. I honestly can't believe how clear they sound. The Sony they're connected to is rated for 15 Watts/ch, but their high efficiency more than makes up for it.

Do you happen to know what driver, or drivers, the 521 house? I bought a set of 511, containing a single 6" Philips AD7060 fullrange, which sounds quite nice. I did not keep the cabs and built something else for the drivers.

Hey all,
On my travels yesterday I too picked up a pair of NEC-564. I have attached some pics of the drivers out of the cabinet. The tweeter is a Foster FHT-5. The only markings on the alnico woofers is the number 72.5-19. Looks like it might be a date. Given that the tweets are Japanese, stands to reason so are the woofers? Maybe Foster too?
Have not listened to these yet but they do look interesting.

That's the first time I have seen a Foster tweeter in a Noresco box...I have parted out so many,I have lost count!! The woofer I have had a few....always though they were German...like an Isophon...of which alot are. I have had a few 564's...
