Anyone Heard of Quatre Speakers?

During the 70's a company named Quatre made waves with the "Gain Cell" amplifier, which quickly acquired a reputation for blowing up. This was "bleeding edge" technology. The same company also made some speakers, of which I own a pair, called Quatra 8000 Series II. They are 10" 3-ways. The fronts are plastered with some type of tar, which looks most un-professional, but they actually sound decent. According to Orion the 8000s were made from 1972 to 1976 and retailed for $450.00. Curious if anyone here knows anything else about them.

I know quite a bit about these speakers. They were actually made through the 80s and into the very early 90s.

The 4000s were actually excellent.

Sorry I didn't catch your post earlier, but I love to know everything you can tell me!!!!!

I thought I answered this post a long time ago ...
I went with a friend who purchased a pair, I don't remember the model number. I want to say, 4000, but not sure. It was in the 1979 time frame. I can remember sitting in the show room at Accurate Audio (Santa Monica ?) listening to the Beethoven Appassionata sonata (direct disc) on them and being wowed. Yes we could tell it was a Boesendorfer, and my friend had played one before.
I know she still had the speakers when we visited Tucson in the late '80s but I don't know about now.
