What are your favorite vintage speakers?

I would like to purchase some vintage speakers to go with my Sansui 2000a receiver. What are your favorites circa 1970-1980. I'm talking Sansui, Advent, Pioneer, KLH, etc. What are your favorites and suggestions? Will be used as an occasional Rock & Roll system. Thanks.

Dynaco, for good sound on a wide range of music. I wish I'd never "loaned" my A-50's to my first wife's father, or sold my A-25's and my A-40xl's :sigh:

My personal fav was a pair of New Large Advents I sold a buddy of mine. Sounded pretty darn good with all type of music :thmbsp:

I've owned three pair of Sansui kabuki speakers and didn't care much for them. Last pair hit ePay the other day.

I've got a pair of Pioneer HPM-200's that sound great. And the HPM-100"s have a big following here as do the JBL L-100's.

Acoustic Research ( AR ) also made some damn fine speakers...

So you have many choices :yes:

i have to say the ADS L-810, circa 79 or earlier. they do everything well and the sound is just plain sweet.
 
My favorite speaker? Well that would be the RTR 280DR
or the RTR 180D... love them both! :D

well, my favorite standard size floor speaker that I have is my EPI 180's. they dont seem to have alot of depth, but sound great and will play all types of music.

If you want bookshelf, find a set of either realistic minimus 7's or my personal favorite, realistic MC-800. I have yet to hear a better bookshelf speaker.
 
I'm starting to get pretty partial to these Yamaha NS-1000Ms. Especially when listening in the near-field. My second choice is the LA, mentioned above. It has only one bad trait and that is that it rolls off big time on the dynamics at low listening levels. I'll come back and edit this once I have my set of restored EPI 120bs from Merrylander and listen to them long enough to get broken-in.
 
These are what I've heard, but not owned. CS-99a's, Bose 901's, many JBL's. What I own right now, that are my fav's. Optimus 1b's, KLH Model Ten's, CS-77's, Optimus T-120's, Polk Monitor 5's. And soon I'll be adding a pair of Cerwin Vega D-9's, so the jury is still out.

Well beatleFred just beat me to infinity but I do love the Qjr, though probably not the best match for your sansui so hows about another vote for the hpm 100 or if you want to stay with sansui I did like the sp 2000's more than the rest of the sansui speakers I have listened to.
 
Without a shadow of a doubt that would be the Ohm F. Expensive as hell (even today if you find one with surrounds more or less intact) but nothing else compares...
 
Celestion Dittion model 44, mid to late 70s, 12" 3 way, sealed cab, rubber surrounds... English you know!

Very smooth and wide dymatic range.
