Sansui P-50 turntable - some info sought

hello there

just picked up a used Sansui belt-drive TT for a little more money that I'd care to admit, even though it does work fine (so far).

It will need a new belt in the very-near future as it's starting to drag, but other than that it does play OK.

Since I got no manual with it I'd really appreciate if anyone has one around; I'm interested in the arm parameters (overhang, usable cartridge weight, effective mass, etc. etc.) so that I can zero in on the adjustments as best as possible.

Two other things, BTW: 1) Is there any way to buff acrylic (ie. the dust cover) to restore a bit of its original erm.. transparency?

And 2) What's the best way to clean mold spots from plated-plastic knobs? There are a few of those and I'm not sure what to do with them.

Hi Damian,

I've never heard one myself but the P-50 got a decent review for a entry level tt in HiFi Answers back in Oct 1980. It doesn't provide many specs but does state that cart weight is in the 3.5g to 11g range and they measured arm friction of 20mgms in the vertical plane and 50mgms in the horizontal. Allows tracking forces as low as 1g but prefers a bit more. Low capacitance leads measured out at 95pF.

I'd posted the same request on several message boards and today I found out someone at the 'classicsansui' Yahoo group had posted a more complete set of specs.

There's also a SR222 on offer from Toasted A in the "for sale" forum. I've got the MkII and it's a very nice deck for the price. As far as I can tell the only diff between the Mk1 and 2 is the finish which is glossy black on the Mk2.
