altec 605A, no HF in the one speaker?

Rockmonton

Infected with Altecitis
they both were pretty weak on the high end when i first got them, no problem, they sounded the same, hooked em up again today, one sounds much much better than the second across the board? diaphragm checks out at 5.1 ohms. woofer at about 8, any ideas why i'd get the HF back on one and not the other?

if i had another xover, i would for sure, but i dont wanna hurt the diaphragm. i'll swap the xovers and see.

okay, the switcharoo made the other one work, so its in the one crossover, puleld it apart, black wax, a box with two unmarked caps, a big 4 mfd cap, the potentiometer is good actually, so what now? one of the caps probably right?

anyone got a schematic? there are two caps in paralell and i canont seem to find a schematic, there is aslo a 4 mfd oil filled sucker, and there is some what appears to be oil around the one hole. bad? i really sohuld buy a cap checker.

yes, i think i will as soon as i can find out what the values for the two foil caps are, the big one is an oil filled 4 mfd 50 wv solar cap.

Hi
The paper Xover capacitors go bad . The 605A ( N1600 ) uses a 16 ufd 100 volt non polar across the LF ( Woffer ) speaker; replace it . The oil filled ( bath tub ) is 4 ufd 200 volt np in series with the horn; should be ok.
