What is your perfect speaker?

Ok, previously I have asked for opinions on favorite vintage speakers. I have also posted about my inability to find a speaker that is hard to find fault with. So, if you can only choose one speaker to live with, what do you choose. Be realistic make it a speaker you can afford. I'm really interested in what everyone might consider to be a near perfect speaker.

Hi Ross,

I haven't had them long, but you should come over and hear the Time Windows. Given what I've heard, they get my vote. Dynaco A-25s a close second out of my personal stash. As for being realistic, you know where I got them both, but even if you don't "score" them at a thrift, you can get either on fee bay for not a lot of money.

I have to say I favor horns with a "west coast" flavor. JBL L65 or L300 are high on my list. I have a pair of L200b in my lineup now.
 
Edgar horns with horn subs but until I get there, I'm happy with Altec 604's.

I will mess around with a few DIY horn systems in the next little while but so far I haven't heard anything, regardless of price, that I'd prefer to the Edgars or 604's.
 
being ignorant of most everything else, i'll stick with the AR-9's. an amazingly solid speaker in all aspects. does an absolute killer job of HT in stereo.
 
For a long time I would have said the Wharfedale E-90's. But, if I were really pressed, I would say the Technics SB-7000A. While I had them (and this may be more than a bit of seller's remorse) they were the best all round speaker in my system.

If I had to choose among what I have now, it would either be the E-90's or my Altec 887A's. The Altecs go deeper in bass and have a broader frequency response (not to mention better imaging), but they simply cannot compete with the E-90's for loudness or punch factor.

Never heard any OHMs. I would really like to. I have never heard anyone have anything bad to say about them.

Not just because they are my newest but because they are the best sounding speaker that I have heard I am gonna go with Eminent Technology LFT-VIII. They are flat out AMAZING!

Ed, I picked up another pair of A-25's at a thrift today for a whole $6. Now I don't have to keep kicking myself for selling the other pair I had. :)

What is it with A 25s for $6? That's what mine cost! Great score. I love those speakers. What kind of shape are they in?

I'm gonna go out for a bit tomorrow and see what I can find.
 
Hard Choice

Wow...it's a really close call between Infinity Kappa 9s, modified ESS AMT-3s and Nearfield Acoustics Pipedream Hemisphere 18s. OK...if I have to live with them for a long, long time, I'll take the Pipedreams. :scratch2:
 
My KEFs aren't perfect by a long shot, but I'm happy. Perfect ones, though, would have to be any of the MartinLogans I've heard.

the speaker that I would have to live with...well I guess I already have it ...the Klipsch Fortes..... :thmbsp:

Not too big to handle, and not too small where you are straining to hear the transients....plus they can 'get up and dance' with very little power ... :banana:

OH! ...and the 'Machs' too...they are a good match for each other...believe it ....or not!..... :smoke:
