Harbeth SHL5....finaly

For the last two years I am looking for a decent speaker for my vintage Sansui amps and receivers.
I tested several KEF's,B&W's...etc,etc,and at the end of last year auditioned Harbeth 7's and 5's.Just several songs were enough to decide which one is right for me.Croatian distributor was cordial and offered both models for home listening.Unfortunately,I've already planned a ten-day vacation with my family,and after returning,I wasn't able to find some free time for myself.
Anyway,after several weeks of such a situation, I decided to order one pair of SHL5 (it was the end of March).Rosewood and eucalyptus finish was available instantly,but no,I wanted tiger ebony (damn me)....and they arrived yesterday :banana:

Aw, sweet! Welcome to the happy Harbeth SHL-5 club. The only speakers that managed the trick of stopping me from buying any more speakers! I hope you love them as much as I love mine, and I suspect that you will. I can't wait to see the pictures of the tiger-ebony finish. You don't see those often.

yes I know,I read your thread and I have enjoyed your posts.
Still have to organize the decent stands for SHL5,those I have is too high for them.Then I'll pull out Mosvintage and test them properly :D

MosVintage? I'm jealous! Wow, you have some choice vintage gear. I'm not using Spendor BC-1 stands on mine, which aren't exactly ideal as they have little casters on the bottom but they are the right height. My other stands I made from old side tables that were just the right size on top, and even those I had to cut down to size as getting the right height helps more than I thought it would. My ears are somewhere in between the tweeter/supertweeter level. All of the stands I looked at were too high for my low-sitting furniture.

Yes,fourfold 1 is at my room for two years :D. Goddess Fortuna smiled on me back then.
If this pair will sound like combo WLM Diva/Almarro,then my speakers mission is complete.

all I can smell right now is the smell of burning :D ...it is a pretty hot here;cca 40°C

I remember those Sansu-topia pictures. That's certainly an apt name for what you have going there. And those WLM speakers look really interesting. The Harbeths should be a nice contrast.

That's a very nice collection, and I like how focused it is. Good stuff!

Think I'm on the right track.If anything I can complain about is maybe is little too much bass (at least I don't have to use the loudness at very quiet listening :D)
It could be up to my room,speaker position or somehow I suspect stands are the reason.
Currently I am using a very heavy stands (50 kilos, filled with a mixture of lead pellets and sand) leftover of the previous speakers, and they are also twenty centimeters too high.

although I'm not very pleased with the appearance of the room...still a lot of (Sansui) stuff lying around corners and WAF has reached a critical point :D

I prefer the view from this corner,because at the last picture everything looks kinda of pale

After several days of listening SHL5,I do not know what to say...everything I've read about them it seems to be true.
It is a relief to simply enjoy the music itself :smoke:
 
Nice! I think you're right about the stands throwing off the balance. Get them lower, and your ears closer to the axis of the tweeters, and I think they'll sound less bass heavy. Love that finish, it's different than most SHL-5s you see.
