Need help with pricing of turntable

I'd like some opinions on an ADC Accutrac 4000 turntable. I'm helping my Aunt clean house and E-bay seems like a good spot for this turntable.

I've checked E-bay for previous auctions with no luck.

Can anyone suggest a starting price for something like this? I'm not familiar with turntable pricing.

I'm going to go ahead and try to nip this one before it gets going. amusthj, you wouldn't know this unless you'd hung around here for a while, but you've just stumbled on to a collective "Pet Peeve" by coming here for this type of information as a first post.

Go to ebay and do a search of completed items similar to the one you have, and feel free to let us know your findings. You may even find someone here interested, and it would be nice if you offered it here first.

People here already know that you got the thing from your aunt (Presumably for free) So don't make the mistake of trying to sell it here for an inflated price. Last person that did that here didn't fare very well.

One more thing. I used to work on these and the microprocessor would sometimes go bad, leaving it so the automatic functions wouldn't work. The part is not available, so if the functions don't worth I'll tell you right now its worth about $.25

I agree with all that's been said, and have to add my own 2 cents. The Accutrac turntable was probably the most toublesome piece of equipment ever to have been manufactured, and as newer production units rolled off the assembly line, the "geniuses" at BSR (then owners of ADC) chose to cheapen key parts which, shortly after use, froze up or broke outright, rendering the entire unit inoperative. Also, the programmable feature works ONLY with the specific ADC cartridge installed, and both it, and a replacement stylus for it, haven't been manufactured for decades. In short, this turntable is worthless.

Just my 2 cents.

Stick around if you're interested in old audio. If it was just a hit and run to find out what your aunt's TT will get on eBay, well...

We like people who participate... the knowledgable people around here (of which I ain't) share info freely, but it gets a bit tiring for them to constantly answer what's it worth questions by people who are too lazy to check on ebay- yeah, I saw you couldn't find comps on the bay. Kind of like doctors don't like to constantly be "on duty".

Please feel free to stick around, ask questions, chit chat, whatever. Give your auntie a bit for the amp and turntable and use them yourself for awhile- you might find you really enjoy it, you would enjoy the AK fellowship more. Then if you want to inquire about selling because you have 20 pairs of speakers 9 amps and 6 TT's, we'd be way more understanding!
 
The best opening price on eBay is $1.00. The purpose of an auction is to see what the market will bear. If you have an idea of what you THINK something is worth, put it up for $1.00 and set a reserve at our near the price you are willing to take. A lot of things on eBay never get a bid because the opening price is just more than they are worth. The market doesn't lie -- if you ask $50 for something and get no bids, it's not because other people don't recognize the value. And NOT selling something for $50 doesn't make it still worth $50 and therefore worth keeping. :nerd:

Last I checked, eBay was an auction site. So start bidding at something reasonable, like $1, $5, or $10, then it will find its own level.

For instance, some people (some of them right here on this forum) will pay many times original retail for certain 70's Japanese receivers (way past $1000), that to me would be worth $50 at the most. :scratch2:

So, to sum up: that turntable is worth exactly what someone will pay for it. Put it on eBay and find out.
