Hi guys,
I picked up a very near mint SX-980 at the swap meet for $50 bucks last weekend, boy was I excited. I really love the looks and power of this unit, but think it may need some work. First, a little background. I'm a newb and was until recently running a Marantz 2215b or H/K 330a hooked up to some Mirage SM-1s. Both setups produced warm, beautiful sound but were lacking in power. I'm now running the SX-980 with the same speakers with mixed results. TONS of power, but I think I may be pushing the speakers too hard. In order to keep woofer movement in the safety zone I need to run bass in the negatives... not sure if that is normal. Perhaps I am to paranoid about hurting my speakers? What range of movement is safe? The 980 does sound very good, but treble is always too present, very shrill. Could this be a power issue? Am I running to many watts through my speakers? I really love the looks of this receiver, what with all the cool dials and knobs and such, and would love to get it running well... time for some new speakers? Thanks!
