My oak system is growing

Well I've been busy the past few evenings. Decided to, actually was anxious to, tackle some more components in my system. I reveneered the SA-6800 Integrated amp, TX-6800 tuner, DT-5 timer (which as most of you know, does not ship factory with a wood cabinet ) and the CT-F950 cassette deck I did a week ago.

I apologize if they are a little blurry. I took the pics without a flash and It's not easy to stay steady without a tripod.

This is the scary part. I was never into woodworking. The CT-F950 was my first serious attempt at altering a piece of audio gear or anything else for that matter. I'm just excited about the way the gear looks in red oak so that is what's driving me right now.

As far as the timer, I had to completely do the side boards twice as I was totally unhappy with the first set. I accidentally put robal chene oak instead of red oak and the gap between the top and side boards was unacceptable to me. Also the right side board is slightly higher in the front. I will redo that side again in the future.

I'm an anal person. You can ask my wife. But for the little bit of experience I have, about 2 weeks, I'm pretty happy with the way everything turned out. All I have to work with is a table saw and a dremel tool. Oh yeah, and lots of patience. :yes: I have to give it a rest for now because my wife is tired of the kitchen table being my wood shop. :D

As far as the HPM's, my brother really wants me to do his 100's. We figured between $70 and $90 in veneer to do a set of those. I just don't have the money to do that yet. It should be relatively easy but will involve a lot of time in edge sanding. Although I think they would look sweet. I'm not ruling it out.

By the way, I was also thinking about building a cabinet for the DBX. How do you think it would look? The face is black. Black with oak on the top and sides. What do you guys think. I really need your input here.

I debated that and if the majority think it looks goofy, I can easily make them disappear. It was one of those moments. Should I or Shouldn't I? The Should I won at that particular time.

I agree with the stickers, while they give it more a factory look, I think it detracts from what you're trying to accomplish, definately do the DBX to match. :thmbsp: What where your dimensions for the timer covers? Are you making templates/plans, or engineering on the fly?

I don't have a template for the timer. I wrote dimensions down as I went. I would like to redo the side panels sometime so I can get something on paper for you if you like.
