ads L-810 speakers and ads F800 stands

I recently acquired a pair of ads F800 metal stands to use with my ads L-810 speakers. When I went to set up the speaker stands with the speakers, it was not clear how to mount the speakers on the stands. Here is why I am puzzled: :scratch2:

My L-810 speakers have walnut cabinets with the radius cabinet edges and metal grills. There are (4) black metal posts mounted on the bottom of the speaker cabinet. These posts are threaded and they do not appear to be removable.

There are no holes in the ADS F800 metal stands that would be used to mount the speakers. There are strips of black rubber-like material where the speaker cabinet would sit. These metal stands have posts on the bottom of the stands. These posts are not threaded and they do not appear to be removable.

Can anyone with ads L-810 speakers and ads F800 stands provide some advise on how to setup the stands with the speakers?

I have the same model speakers you have and there are no spikes or place for spikes on them. It sounds like yours were installed by a previous owner. Grab a pair of pliers and see if they unscrew or pull out.

BTW, where did you get the speaker stands? I'd love to get my hands on an original pair. Can you post a picture of the stands?
 
I have a pair of L 810s, but they are the ones without the rounded corners. They have no threaded insets for spikes or stands.

I have early 810s. They have four pairs of threaded holes on the rear of the cabinets. I assume these are for attaching legs.

Sorry for the crap pictures (need to break down and buy a digital camera).

Anyway, my L810s do not have anything on the bottom. The stands do have two holes on the back that would match up with the cabinets if someone wanted to drill and screw the back of the stands to the back edge of the cabinet sides. I'm never done this, by the way.

My stands have rubber feet and rubber on the surface where the cabinets rest.

Sadly, no protractor. I do however have a woodworking triangle that is too big to be precise, but from that I would say we are talking about 8 degrees or less. At seven inches of run, the rise is about a half inch. I cannot seem to find a way to get more precise than that. Suffice to write, it is a subtle value.

I'm not sure if you guys would agree, but soundstage is not my L810's strong suit, so the stands can be very usefull. I've had the XOs worked over and that helped everything a little, and especially the imaging, but still, my 810s need to be placed well to perform. Given the price/performance ratio, I can live with that because I love so many other attributes.

By comparison, I have some of the recently made ADS HT400LRCs that, while sonically cannot be compared to the L810s, they seem to produce a huge soundstage even if placed at the bottom of a swimming pool.

Solved! The mystery of the ads L-810 "spikes"

The "spikes" were installed by the original owner of the speakers and were not a factory option. I will need to remove these spikes in order to use the matching ads F800 stands.

Would you mind taking a few measurements? The hight at the front and rear, and the distance from front to rear. That would be all we would need to figure out the angle.

Sure Ed... no trouble.

The height at the front is 9 inches and the back is 8 3/8th. The run between those points was 9 7/8th. If that works out to something less then 9 degrees, the it is probably correct.

Back to listening to my 810s... :music:
