Woofer Surround Maintenance?

I own a pair of mint condition 1970's (?) Cervin Vega speakers with the classic 12" drivers. The woofers are in mint condition but I am concerned about the deterioration of the woofers surrounds, is there a product I can apply to the surrounds that will lubricate the foam to keep them from drying out and cracking?

No product that I know of that will keep the surrounds from blowing chunks. I would buy a cheap pair of speakers from a thrift or garage sale that need refoaming a practice pair if you will. Then refoam the CV's once you've honed your skills. Refoaming isn't very hard at all. There are plenty of threads here to help in the process :thmbsp:

Basically, no (at least AFAIK).

If the surrounds are still completely intact, you could apply a thin coat of rubber cement and maybe buy yourself some time, but it may look like chit. These guys are steering you in the best direction. Get yourself a refoam kit and have at it. - Mark
 
Thanks for the advise, I guess I will just keep rocking in the free world untill dooms day arrives, they are in surprisingly good condition right now, they look like brand new! fingers crossed...

There are products out there that can help preserve rubber surrounds. STP "Son-of-a-Gun" has been mentioned. I've use ArmorAll on my old EPI surrrounds, and they've stayed supple.

Apply with a Q-tip, and do both sides (as best as you can).
 
The CV's I refoamed last weekend were VERY easy. Lots of play in the voice coil and the surrounds are very easy to find. I would suggest trying it on a cheap pair of speakers (like somebody else said...) but after that you should have no problem.
