NAD Model 200

Came across this beast in a local fleamarket here in Tampere, Finland and carried it home. It's a heavy one, weights 26 kilos and outputs 2x110 wpc (8 ohms). Most of the information I have been able to find on this unit has been in German, very little in English. Perhaps it was only available here in Europe. The unit is built in Japan but backplate has German text. It also seems that this was quite an early unit as its serial number is #2490 and the number is not engraved but printed on a small sticker. I'm not sure when this model was introduced but my guess is 1976 based on the little information I have been able to find.

The unit is in good condition. It had some dust and dirt under ventilation grill but after cleaning it has performed well and sounds certainly better than my two year old Cambridge Audio 640A. It will likely be my main amplifier from now on. Not a bad way to spend 85 euros.

The smaller amp in the picture is Pioneer SA-700 from 1970 which I bought secondhand in 1977 and restored back to working condition recently. I don't really use it but it was my first hifi purchase and so i'll keep it whatever else comes around.

A nice looking unit was sold in German eBay last December, price was somewhat steeper than what I paid. Also the seller claimed it had 2x150 wpc (8 ohms) which is certainly not true. Anyway, there are some good pictures here:

I think you did not bad on your "new" NAD :thmbsp: , but I never heared one life.
At least the 350 euros in the auction were a bit too much to my opinion.

Currently I have a pair of Acoustic Research AR12s and another pair of AR7s, both rebuilt with new surrounds. Other equipment includes Linn Axis turntable with Linn Basik Plus, Ortofon MC20 Super II & Project Phonobox SE phono preamp, Cambridge Audio 640C cd-player, Aiwa AD-S950 cassette deck and AKG K 340 headphones with Heed Canamp amplifier. In full working condition but not in use I have Pioneer SA-700 amp and Connoisseur BD2/A turntable with Goldring 1012.

I can't tell from the AR12 brochure how many terminals you have on the back of these speakers. My AR-3a's and the AR-2's all have three terminals, so bi-amping is fairly easy.

If you have more than 2, then I'd recommend a bi-amp experiment. You could use your "new" NAD to drive the power hungry woofers and your old Pioneer to drive the mids/tweeters.

I can guarantee, you'll like the sound.
