Do you live near Vancouver BC?
It seems to me it might be a good idea to network a bit. Yesterday I was at a Value Village in Coquitlam and saw a Sony ps-x4 tt, but i didn't buy it because I have too many projects. It would have been cool to call an AKer and tell them about it. Also, I like going to garage sales and I often see cool stuff. In fact, too often I buy it. However, I'm running out of room, so I'll have to purge some stuff. Unfortunately you can't buy it all. :tears: That doesn't mean I'll quit going to garage sales though.:D
Maybe we should get a little hotline setup going? Perhaps a wishlist that us garage-salers could keep in mind? Just thinking out loud. Any other ideas welcome.
Is there anything like this in other cities?

Well, Victoria is relatively near Vancouver, I see cool stuff on Van's Craigslist all the time, and wish I could get someone to grab some of it for me. Of course I'de reciprocate, we get some decent stuff here too.Count me in.

I have family in Abbotsford and usually get down there 2-3 times a year. I could possibly deliver stuff to/from Calgary/Edmonton.

Would also be interested in meeting up for a listening session if I'm down. The inlaws place can get boring after a day or two. Also have a good friend in N.Delta who is really into music. Took him a TT the last time I was out.

Hey you guys!!Don't forget about your "southern" neighbors down here in Washington State.I've always wondered about the thrift'n up there in B.C.,the flea markets,garage sales,etc.,wouldn't mind comin' up your way for a visit and hello.I'm just 2 hrs. from the border,so a small bit of traveling may yield some good stuff,who knows?:scratch2: Plus I'd like to invite any B.C. AKer's down this way when we,hopefully,can organize a meet in the Seattle/Portland area,hopefully in the spring,unless....you guy's plan one before us:yes: Rob

Count me in. I'm in New Westminster and I see gear all of the time that I pass on, due to too much inventory. I too am always looking to barter as well.
 
OK, so it looks like there is plenty of interest. I guess the only way to get a hold of someone on short notice is by phone and cell. For other things like craigslist ads we could probably just use AK's private message system.
What would be a good way to gather our craplists, err, wishlists together? What about impulse buys? Example- Joe wants a Yamaha receiver, but I have a nice integrated in front of me.:scratch2:
And another thing.. a lot of garage sale stuff needs a bit of attention. Is there a local that can fix stuff cheap, or for barter? I'm pretty handy, but I'm not an electronics tech.
Any other comments, ideas, questions?:blah:

Good techs are impossible to find. I'm almost two weeks into just getting a diagnosis and estimate on a problem and the equipment hasn't been touched yet. Any one who knows a good one would be doing all of us a favour by sharing the name.

In that vein, there is a shop on Capilano Road at Fullerton in North Vancouver, don't remember the name but the gear he had in there and the phono pre that he had designed and was having manufactured suggests he knows his stuff. Won't work on tuners though.

What is the piece, and what is the problem? You never know who can help.
 
It's a Sony STR 6200F. Plays anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours on any input then the output to speakers and headphones cuts out. Turn it off for a few minutes and it plays again. I'm guessing a thermal issue in the amplifier circuit but it's a little out of my league and the unit is not one I'm willing to practice on.

Sounds like a solder joint, possibly in the relay. I have an old Traynor guitar amp that blows a solder joint about once per year.
I saw the Bryston, sounds nice. I got a cool tube preamp for $2 at an estate sale last year. :smoke:

You are more than welcome to hop aboard retrokeeper! In fact, when I posted my Marantz amp/preamp combo on CL, it was a fellow from Seattle that drove up and bought it. He didn't even want to hear it first, but I made him. :)

Seattle and Vancouver are so close, and such nice cities, it's a shame that there's not more interaction between them. Plus, they are both CL hotspots!
