6BL8 Tubes

Most consumers back then weren't analyzing the technical details of potential purchases at this level.
I don't know since I wasn't around back then but I have hundreds of magazines from the 1950's & 60's.... Audio, Stereo Review, High Fidelity and several lesser known publications and I'm always impressed when thumbing through them by how much actual engineering is discussed whereas more current mainstream publications simply publish specifications.

do you have any mag,s from Vacuume Tube Valley they really did great shot outs and many brand tubes use great analog equipment. so to make up your mind as to which tube manufacture to choose from.

The lower the signal level the more components affect the quality of the signal...

The "Black Plate" metal is a more expensive than Grey plates.
yes and it depends on manufactures process, Tung-Sol first plates inside if tube screens and grids with GOLD then Carbonizes over the Gold mind you im talking 1950-59 tung-sol 6550's thats why they sound so very rich in music reproduction and cost of NOS can be 1200.00 per tube depending on getter location and true NOS tubes. etched bottom date code 3225904 322 tung-sol 59 year 04 april. true Tung-sol tubes the most looked for have 3 D getters on top for Marshall guitar amps, for audio stereo 3 getters 2 on one side 1 on top all D getters plated gold then carbonized. outrageous sound stage, imaging. bass to die for.
RCA pre amp tube like 12ax7, 12au7 also have black plate with slightly tipped D getters they sound so good but again NOS. Sylvania 6v6g, 6v6gt, 6v6gta, 6v6gty even baldwin are sylvania tubes black plate, so it depends are ya looking for the name or the manufacture. sylvania tubes are great sounding tube. RCA NOS 7408, 6v6gt, 6v6gta have gray plates dual bottom o getters and are slightly quiter than sylvania yet have such a unique sound yet not the volume as the sylvanias do. i have a lot of both RCA and Sylvania tube and done so much tube rolling my eye,s used to revolve when tired of tube rolling. until I found NOS Stromberg Carlson 6550 mono blocks in original boxes never energized on ebay. now those mono blocks are all i listen to all 1959 1960 tubes. Mullard, Tung-Sol, RCA, dont need much volume to feel the floor vibrate. 40 watt normal, instantaneous 100 watt when say a bass drum really hits hard, sax to die for, string instruments like cello, viola, pianos..so very natural

A hole mess of cords a grounding rod. Im doing well I love to learn to build a single ended EL-84 I have one made by Motorola it came with Mullard EL-84 my friends and I used to call them muddy tops due to what looked like oil inside the tube but man did they ever sound great, this litte one only has small output transformers and a 2 ohm output. need some help on getting it to more output and the right transformers for HI-FI . my speakers can except low wattage and still sound great.
