Why a outboard DAC?

Ok I've been re-ripping all my cd's to WMA lossless, and plan to use a netbook to grab them from my media server. The netbook has no optical out, but a $29 Turtle Beach micro usb card does. Why not use that to go to my HK receiver and let it's DAC's do the conversion?

Why not indeed. In my home theater, I let my Denon receiver do the conversion from a Squeezbox Classic. I do this to bypass the analog outputs of the SB. It has been working well for me.
