    Garrard

What tonearm and cartridge are you using on the 301? I found my 124 and 301 were synergistic with heavy tonearms and low compliance carts but not as much with some modern carts (especially the 124 that messed with my Benz MC). They also require maintenance - as in either expensive or time...

    Schiit Mani phono stage.

I tried the mani from my budget rig out with a Denon 103r and a Benz LPS and hated it. It does ok for beater records and a decent MM but I would never use it for MC or critical listening in a revealing system. Need I say YMMV? :)

    Discogs for sale screwups

I always message and nicely ask for pictures of the actual album focusing on the things I know will tell me what I need to know. Most sellers and very responsive and nice, if they are tough with info I usually call it quits.

    New Mono records - Cart?

Simple answer to OP question: Dedicated mono cart sounds better, a better stylus profile sounds better, that’s why the more expensive mono carts have them. I like AT33 mono but there are more or less expensive options. Would I buy one for a single mono record? No.

    New turntable suggestions

My advice echoes Grenadeslio above - the Kenwoods he suggested are solid choices.

    New turntable suggestions

Depending on the condition of your records a 70s DD consumer TT that has had light servicing will kill anything new. I have had a bunch of vintage and new TT including old Thorens and the AT120 (which feels super cheap). If I am feeling fancy I listen to my SME TT, if I want to just enjoy some...

Songs With Excessive Sibilance Not Related To Improper Setup

My Denon 103r was retipped with a sapphire cantilever and MR stylus and setup very meticulously with a MintLP protractor and Fozgometer. I would hear sibilance very rarely and end up blaming it on pressing or a previous owner causing damage. Since moving on I’ve listened to some of those same...

Have this Rek-o-Kut tonearm on TD124. What would you recommend I get?

My recommendations :) budget low to high Low compliance - stick with rekokut, old Audiotechnica arms known to be matches with 103, newer Jelco models, Schick/Groovemaster Medium compliance - lower rega, audiomods, Ortofon, Graham High Compliance - SME improved or III I went down most of the...

Have this Rek-o-Kut tonearm on TD124. What would you recommend I get?

Work backwards from the type of cartridge you want to use IME - nothing like buying a tonearm and realizing none of your carts are a compliance match. Then just buy whatever normal recommended matches for 124 fall at your price point.

    $50 budget TT

A used 80s era Yamaha - decent sound and they pop up on CL once in a while. People are on the lookout for Technics, etc which drives their price down. When I had the time I would buy tons of “broken” turntables on CL for $10, order the appropriate belt, and enjoy some tunes 4-5 days later. GL

    Speaker recommendations

Thanks so much to everyone who has pitched in - since essentially each response was in support of a different speaker and each is probably right to some extent I think I’ll just wait out COVID a little while longer and hit the hifi store in Atlanta to see if anything strikes me as sounding right...

I see your point - I have listened at lower volumes on some systems and still felt enveloped by the sound rather than hearing it presented from somewhere in front of me, does that description make sense?
