Sony TC-651's. I have one that sat around for 40 years. After an hour or so of working it started slowing down in play as others had described. Your solution of the snubbers failing fit my problem to a T. Ordered new ones. Replaces all 8. Worked great for several hours. Then started slowing down again. Need advice. Ordered new main belt. Oiled motor & pinch roller.
