anyone else running vintage Empire carts?

I have a 2000Z with the 2000T stylus. It rides very close to vinyl tracking at 1.25 g but never bottoms. It sounds fabulous. The stylus on these carts were very short by design and I think work and look as designed.

What are you listening to on your reel to reel right now?

That 6300 must have a lot of miles on it by now. Are the heads original? These Teacs are so reliable. I love my simple 2300S, it just runs flawlessly and the only thing I had to do was service it.

Big full range, unpowered speakers just sound better

Big full range, unpowered speakers just sound better

Please listen to the clip I recommend and see if you hear the difference. Clapton’s group has an acoustic bass that just about shakes my living room. My lame set up is a pair of model 23’s with a Kef 15 inch sub crossed over as low as it would go 50Hz?

Big full range, unpowered speakers just sound better

I’ve been doing some critical listening lately and I’ve discovered something interesting, my full range speakers outperform my smaller speakers with 15 inch sub. It was hard to put my finger on exactly what was different until I played a YouTube video of Clapton covering Black Magic Woman on an...

    Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

I don’t disagree. I grew up with the model 5’s. I’m giving these to my sister. I’m sure she’ll love them.

    Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

Yep, and I sealed the surrounds with the famous @RoyC formula. They are as good as they can be. Edit: I also have a pair of a/d/s L8e’s and they are nearly as good as the W70e’s with the addition of my 15 inch sub.

    Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

Guess I'm a sucker for those big floor standers :) My W70e's clock in at around 55lbs. The mirage speaker I auditioned had such clean sound and really great stage presence. You could hear where the musicians were positioned. My W70e's although not quite as good are remarkable. These were early...
