    X202B - 9 pin socket replacement questions

Yeah, If I have to go and pop out those rivets, an annoying task, I would just prefer new, reliable sockets without corrosion from sitting on a shelf for 60 years. I ordered the Beltons, I'll update this thread with my results. Regarding capacitance, I'm not referring to the socket, but a...

    X202B - 9 pin socket replacement questions

There is just a black wire on each center barrel connecting it to ground on an adjacent terminal strip. On each tube like mentioned above. The dimensions all seem to measure out fine for Beltons, if anyone is curious.

    X202B - 9 pin socket replacement questions

Hi all, Quick question. Soon I would like to replace the line stage 9pin sockets in my X202B. (V3-V6.) They are pretty worn out and keep causing signal issues which I've been unable to correct with re-tensioning. But they all have the center grounding barrel, with a wire simply connecting them...

    12dw7/7247 preferences

When I needed a pair for my X202B TubeDepot had vintage Mullards (branded Hammond). Their price is $50 each, you can email them and ask what brands they have in stock. Seems fair to me, given that the EH 12dw7 is $42. Also sometimes they have 10% off sales.

IBBA board on a Fisher 400

Here is my 400's underside with the IBBA. If you layout the PCB carefully you can make it pretty small. (I have some resistors on the bottom side.) I used a single metal standoff through a preexisting hole in the chassis. You can make yourself some more space in that area by stuffing the...

X202B: Recurring tube socket contact issues

Hello all, I've been having recurring issues with the tube sockets in my X202B. I've had the unit around two years and have done a thorough restoration. However, I seem to keep having volume/ balance issues that are resolved by rocking a tube in its socket or removing then reinserting. I...

Best Way to Hook Two Inputs to Auxiliary Jacks on Fisher 400?

How many line level inputs do you need? Two? Use Aux for the first and Tape Monitor for the 2nd. Flip the Tape Monitor switch to access the 2nd input. An added feature / issue depending on your perspective is that the tape monitor input is a bit less sensitive than the Aux input, which can help...

Best Way to Find a Wood Case for 400?

When looking recently I found this website: https://www.fisher500cabinets.com/ I'm curious if anyone here bought from him, and what their experience was.

Technics 1700mk2 troubleshooting - tonearm tracking bouncy/ vibrating

Hi guys, Just to follow up on this, I ordered and installed the KAB fluid damper. Before installing the damper I gave my old ML440B a try since it's 1.5 grams lighter. This reduced but did not eliminate the vibration issue. That cartridge is on a different Technics headshell so the net...

Technics 1700mk2 troubleshooting - tonearm tracking bouncy/ vibrating

Hi Wualta I'm getting the same behavior on a few different records, it's just particularly noticeable on that one because of the steady tambura drone. Flavio thanks for the followup. Maybe I will see if a small tweak will get me over the hump (or warp so to speak). I would like to avoid...

Technics 1700mk2 troubleshooting - tonearm tracking bouncy/ vibrating

Hi everyone thanks for the advice. I had previously read about the KAB Fluid Damper and am certainly considering it. I just don't love the design concept of having an open trough of fluid to manage, not to mention that it costs $150, which is about what the turntable itself cost me. Help me...

Technics 1700mk2 troubleshooting - tonearm tracking bouncy/ vibrating

Hello all, I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue I've noticed with my Technics 1700mk2. Recently, at the beginning of most records I play, the tonearm will lightly bounce or vibrate in a recurring pattern. Not enough to make the playback skip, but it creates a rapid pulse of instability in the...

    X202B Restoration - couple questions

Parts arrived in the mail. I successfully replaced the damaged resistors, and changed the values of c15+c16 and c35+c36 as recommended. Powered it up and tweaked bias values, now this X202b is working well. Celebrating over here, as I was afraid I had damaged the OT. Voltages measure within...

    X202B Restoration - couple questions

Thanks for the info Dave. That makes sense. As I said above I did see the noose listed as a 'to-do' item in the "Gilding the X202b" thread but that's it. I will leave that alone for the moment. I've completed my initial checklist, just waiting for the larger caps to arrive in the mail to adjust...

    X202B Restoration - couple questions

Ok I did some further reading and found that my first question has already been answered by DG. I will copy and paste below for public reference: To remove the permanent LF filters, using the Fisher schematic for my version (serial# 50001- 59999) : 1. Short out C11 and C12. 2. Increase C15...
