KP-450 Question?

Hey there, I just picked these up yesterday and am looking to get them up and running. I am wondering about the connections. I think that All I need to do is bridge the lower cabinet ++/-- then send the signal out of the lower terminal cups to the upper terminals.

The Upper/Horn Cabinet has a KP-4.5A Crossover in it, and I just picture that as a low frequency blocker/horn frequency controller, some sort of notch filter, but I have been unable to find the schematic so far.

Any info would be appreciated.

Figured out a couple things today. The Bottom cabinets are just 2x15 wired in parallel i think and I am seeing an instant steady reading of 3.6 ohms. The uppers have the crossover.

I assume the uppers can take a full range signal, but I am not sure of that, anyone have info on that?

Also, I am trying to figure out what frequency and slope I should be using when I get a dsp and begin to biamp these.

Nice, I get my aluminum from @Daveintn hopefully he chimes in on these. Massive cleaning day on these, they are in excellent shape really.

I am thinking of changing out the only oil capacitor on the HF section to a dayton film or something, then building the low pass network for the bass cabinets.

So, for the LF network, the inductor is to be a 2.7mh. Would 18ga be ok for that? Any input would be appreciated.

Great set of speakers and the fore runner to the KPT 456 and KP 904. Thankfully these were set up for side fill or primary sound and did not have any behind the movie screen nonsense in the crossovers like the 904's do. You have the HF crossover it seems. In the bass bin should be a two component crossover. ALWAYS recap anything this old and in particular those crummy old oil cans. You now have the entry level to true Klipsch bliss with the pro gear. It would not hurt to check all your connections and drivers either.

Hey Dave, thanks for checking in. Got these up and rolling and really like them. My diaphragms were disintegrated, so I had to change them. I used the common EV replacements tat are in the 40 dollar range and Titanium instead of the 180.00 EV oem's. They work great, but I wonder if I made a good choice. I did this knowing that Simply Speakers is about 2 miles from my house and that I may drop the money on them at some point.

Also, you are right about the crossovers. one oil cap, the rest film. Thinking of updating them all with a reasonably priced cap. Maybe even just the daytons.

Does anyone do any lining of the bass bins with foam for standing waves? It seems there is none in there.

Oddly, these are the most obnoxious speakers I have eve had in my current listening room, but due to the front posting they hug the front wall and stay out of the way, to an extent.

GPT5 sez a k-60-m is/was an EV model 81161 "(often listed as 81161XX)" -- is that right -- sounds like a diaphragm number? What driver was this?

Nice find! Yes, I did post them. My wife at first never even wanted them up the stairs (she is my helper). But we got them up and the placement is working out better than planned. So, how long they are here for IDK, I've probably had 100 sets of speakers come through in the last 20 years. I listen standing up most of the time, so he height of these horns is amazing in this 20x40 room. Time will tell, and everything is for sale right?
 
I am not a fan of Ti diaphragms in general and find them harsh sounding most of the time. I remember replacing those diaphragms with EV oem but that was years ago and have no idea if they are still available. Most pro gear I have bought has problems though so check everything. WAF is not a part of the equation for awesome pro sound with gobs of headroom only they can produce. Declare a sound room and tell her it is yours and weather the storm. A furniture dolly can replace an unhappy wife helper. By the way, those sets with wheels and handles are hard to come by in addition to the 450's being hard to come by. You more then likely wont get another chance at a set.
 
By the way in regards to "thinking" of replacing the caps. I am telling you this is the very first thing I do with ALL sets I get and you are making a mistake if you don't.

For a couple of years I had a set of MCM 1900 as shop speakers. Big old double MWM bins I had on a pallet so I could use a pallet jack to move the set around if needed. This set would sip watts and I rarely had them past 50 watts from my Crown XLI800 and the presence was unreal. Yes I have sold sets to people that did indeed put them in their house which apparently had much larger rooms then my double wide.
