Hi All; I have a Denon DP-52F table that has an issue. Between 1 and 1.25 grams tracking force the arm will sometimes start to float and looses contact with the record. Looking at the service manual it shows that the tracking force and Q-Damp adjustment are both adjusted by pots. Would it fix the situation if I sprayed both pots with Deoxit to clean them? I am guessing that the the loop between the servo control and the pot is open at times because of the dirty pots. Thanks for any help!:yes:

Out of curiosity, why track that light? That seems very low. Many TT makers recommend a slightly higher tracking force than the cartridge makers do. I would want to track higher than that.
I had a 52 F for a while; liked it, but it was a bit tricky to set up IIRC. Do you have a stylus force gauge you could use to check the actual tracking? Maybe you aren't even getting 1-1.25?

Did you zero out the tone arm (set it level hanging in the air with power off), then set the 2 dials to the weight you want it set to, power on and the arm should sit back down in the holder?
One way to test to see if the arm weight is set and working is to put on an LP, put a scale (digital = cheap) between the LP (spinning/power on) on top of say a deck of cards so that the scale is the same height as the LP and carefully set the needle down on the scale - you should have the weight on the scale you set the dials too.
Vinylengine should have the owners manual, but not the service manual.

Ya, what BobBrown said!! Can't remember the proceedure on the Denon, but I remember mine was not straight forward to zero it. Check the owners manual and re check it with a scale.
Same or similar issue.. tone arm will suddenly loose its magnetic control and float across the record.. I Assume, it is the tracking force pot. If I work the pot back and forth a bit and return it to 1.75 grams it will work, then after some time of no use.. it will happen again. Anyone fix this permanently? I have not take the thing apart to try and clean the pot.. or replace it. Does anyone know if the DP-52F uses the same light sensors as another model I read about in a different thread. Those issue involved automatic movement not tracking force. Looked over all the thread with DP-52F in the text with no luck on finding anyone who had this issue and fixed it.

Without spinning the record and checking the VTF by a digital scale just outside the platter yo cannot be sure that 1.75 setting gives 1.75 gram VTF.
With old capacitors the internal voltages may be off and VTF control too.
I have a 51F and before cap replacement and service the VTF was clearly off. After it work perfectly

Maybe not, but it is close enough to play and sound fine for weeks then halfway though an album up and float off to the center bouncing all the way.. Move the pot back and forth a few time and is fine again. I fully understand I will need to recap.. I hate to admit how long ago 1983 was... goes on the list right after the refresh of the HF-81..
