I agree. I cleaned that coating off the boards in my CD-1 & B-2. Yamaha didn't use that coating on all their audio gear. For example the B-1 & C-1 boards are NOT coated with that ugly gunk.

Is this something that will impact performance or is it purely aesthetic? I know that if you want to work on the boards, you'd want to remove the gunk first, but is there a functional reason other than that?

Just wondering if I need to be worried.

For my own reasons. I like to see clean boards..before soldering and after.Guess its a military aircraft electronics thing...

Very nice. I wish I had your skills & training. If I can get to a level where I can just do the basics, I'll be quite pleased. :)

Couple years ago off of Ebay. Don't think I spent much more than $35 including shipping. Was one of those"needs work /As-is" sales.Only real problem was a cracked solder connection on one of the " pre-out" RCA jacks and needed switches and controls to be deox-itized.

Nice find! I think I'm confused though. Yamaha made the C-2, C-2a, and the C-2x, correct? Is it the C-2x then that is particularly rare and sought after?

Also, I'm trying to find any way possible to justify buying a certain C-2a I know of for sale. ;)

Correct...If you can get a C-2a or x go for it..Both will outshine a C-2.The C-2x being the best of the C-2 series.
