Perpetuum Ebner turntable in the house...HELP!

Okay, I never aspired to owning a Perpetuum Ebner TT...but suddenly there is one in the foyer! Anybody know anything about this machine. I haven't taken it out of the console yet but it looks like an early Lenco (speed-wise), but it sports a horizontal idler wheel. 78 speed works fine, but all others are slow as hell. Also, there is a tube amp...photos of which are over on the tube forum. Worth saving?

Yes, worth preserving intact. The Lenco table is a notch or two better and much easier tweaked. German consoles are always beautiful in looks and sonics.

That tt is beautiful. I would think that investigation of all the rubber parts is in order. If they're not rock hard, I would think that taking the sheen off might help the performance at other speeds; maybe consider removing the platter and cleaning/relubricating the main bearing?

I'll go look at the tube amp too...

Wow, that IS tiny! Really cool looking, too. A perfect console for the apartment dweller.

Look at all that original documentation - any chance you could scan and post some of that?

The blue and white pamphlet on the turntable that looks like the owner's manual has a very cool looking cover. Are there any diagrams in there that identify the controls/features of your console? Tube layout diagrams/schematics? Sales brochures, catalogs and/or price lists for Blaupunkt products would be extremely cool. Incidentally, do you know what year model you have?

Here are some scans.

Thanks Urchin! Great scans! The one labeled 'Operation of the Set' should definitely come in handy. The visual indicators for the treble and bass controls are unusual - what do they look like? Do they light up? I see that the Radio Museum website lists the Blaupunkt Amazonas model 4521 as being from 1958/59.

Been listening to it all morning. Sounds great, but a bit different due to all three speakers being about 5 inches off the ground. Hey, as far as shortwave stations go, would anybody here be using an external antenna?

Always like the German consoles....

A friend of my Dads had one. All the radio bands fascinated me. Too bad short isnt what it use to be. No more BBC or Radio Moscow. Loads of religous stuff now. As far antennas go a peice of speaker wire run about 10 to 20 feet should do the trick! Its a keeper.

An external antenna is best for SWL; you can, if you wish, though, go with an amplified indoor SW antenna (Radio Shack once made a nice one) or use a telescoping whip with an antenna tuner and/or amplifier. If you have any serious interest in SWL (which, sadly, is a dying communications system in the internet era), check out the antenna stuff (antennae, tuners, preselectors, etc.) at http://www.universal-radio.com/
